Re: URL Can not contain spaces

Aug 3, 2009 1:41 AM
Well I tried and tried and tried to no avail; ebay's SYI form will not accept my self hosted url for the gallery pic so I had to upload it to ebay's picture services from my desktop...I definitely prefer self hosted photos since I distrust ebay pic services' reliability, but I had to have this uploaded tonight. I just could not wait. This issue needs FIXED.

For future reference, you may post here the URL you were trying to use. Then we could test to see if we suffer the same problem with it. Wouldn't necessarily solve the problem but may lead to a procedure to avoid it.

Those helping are eBay members such just like you. We just simply volunteer our time for free helping fellow eBay members.

We have seen numerous complaints of this URL error on this forum, be when we ask for more specific data or for a copy of the URL that is being troublesome, no one every responds.

If someone can post their URL that they are having trouble with, it will help us help you. :)

I'm having the same da&*&*& problem! In the SYI form it states "Please provide the correct information in the highlighted fields.
Gallery Picture - A picture URL (Web address) cannot contain spaces."

I am not new to eBay; it is definitely eBay's issue...how about some help here, support? This is my self hosted photo url I want to use for gallery: Link and it states I cannot have a space. There is no space Not an unintentional space before or after the url, nor within the photo name. It is for item #250476614092 and I want a gllery pic...please....HELP!!!

Your URL does contain a space--right between the words Joel and Camp. This is not valid, according to web standards for URLs, although some browsers will accept it.

I tried for ages to upload a picture and wasn't able to get past the revision page - this worked for me though...

Click on 'Switch to form with more choices' at the top when you're revising your item, then upload your pic as normal. For some reason when you use this form it lets you make the changes. Well, it worked for me ;)

I was getting the "Gallery Picture - A picture URL (Web address) cannot contain spaces" error and noticed I had a "-" in the file name of the pictures I was trying to upload. Removed the "-" and was able to post. How a "-" is related to space, I don't know. But it worked for me.

blien,

Non-numerical characters in the image file name has had a history of being a problem too. Thanks for posting your experience. :)

If uploading from your PC, you also have to avoid any spaces in the file path. Often even the desktop folder will be within "Documents and Settings" which of course has spaces. So you would need to make a folder like "eBay" directly within C:/ and then there won't be any spaces in the overall path. Worked for me, so far.

Brilliant - thanks so much for this. I had already checked for spaces, renamed and resized my photos and moved them onto the desktop with no luck before I found this community help board.

I 'switched to form with more choices' at the top of the form (it was already highlighted but I hadn't paid attention) and it worked perfectly first time.

Thanks Tezri!

I have been going bananas with this trying to upload pictures.

Eventually I changed the selling form from quick to the more detailed one. Then next to the Gallery bit there is a tab that says " add/remove options" In there all 3 were ticked - I unticked them all to do with self hosting, enhanced uploading of photos, etc" Then I went to upload the replacement photo and it worked.

Hopefully that is it - I have been uploading photos into the same directory on my laptop using the same camera and software for years and never had this error message before tonight!

Hi.
I just had a same problem and have spend hours to resolve it.
The only thing that worked for me was running CCleaner
If you dont have it, you can download it free from www.ccleaner.com
Start CCleaner - tick all the boxes related to temporary files, cache, IIS Log files, etc. then analyze for errors and then run cleaner
After that I was finale able to add pictures with no problems.
Hope that will work for you.

Ebay has a bug. You have to click on 'switch to form' for the more detailed selling option. The quick sell option apparently no longer accepts photos.
