A cleaning question.

Tried to look this up before coming here and couldn't find a solution...I have tried the method of cleaning just sterling jewelry with aluminum foil/hot water/powered tide...works GREAT! I have a bracelet that is 1/2 sterling and 1/2 brass and don't know if the same method will work with damage. Anyone know?
