I mean the sterling ones?

Please see above link. I also found the same information on another website that is very trust worthy.

Tiffany & Co sterling silver is NOT rhodium plated. Most fake Tiffany & Co sterling silver IS rhodium plated to keep it looking white.

Now to clarify. If it is rhodium plated, then it is not real. However, with fakes you never know. Someone might be clever enough to realize that and not rhodium plate theirs. And rhodium plating does wear off after a while, so an older fake may no longer have it. So it is not absolute proof that a fake is real.

Thanks again emerald for your help and the ecellent link.

My heart is not rhodium plated, it is slightly tarnished as if it had been around awhile, it is heavy for its size, has the right packaging, and it is definitely not magnetic.

I sometimes need to test for gold or silver but I never before thought of the simple expedient of taking a little magnet around with me.

Magnets do not attract silver on copper and probably not some gold plated items, but they are a simple tool. A refrigerator magnet can be almost as small and flat as a business card.

Sounds like my heart is probably authentic. Good thing i don't plan to list it, though. The ebay penalties for making a mistake about Tiffany are severe, as they should be to protect the public. But researching some things can be inconclusive even if you make a lot of effort, as I am doing here.

Some old sterling marcasite pieces from the 1930s are rhodium plated. Most of those have their plating pretty much intact even though they are old.

From what I have read about rhodium plating, it depends on someone's body chemistry. For some, it can last a lifetime. Others

have to re plate it every 3 months.
