I have this bracelet that is marked Italy 417 G S. I know that the European stamp for 10K is 417, But I don't know what the G S after the 417 means. Thanks for any help.

Didn't know there was a fine jewelry discussion board until today. 375 = 9 k/450 = 10k/585 = 14k/750=18k. European. Maybe go to costume board jewelry dis board, put a pic on. Don't think this one is real gold.

417 is 10KT, GS could be maker's marks. There is an extremely slim possibility that GS is gold-shell, but I've never see it marked that way before, it's usually spelled out. I suspect it's more likely the maker's mark/initials.

Hold it, did I miss something. As per numbers stated in my post, enlighten me please 417 = 10K European. 450=10K European. What else am I missing with the other European marks? Thankyou in advance,

If you look at the link I posted, it lists the percentage amounts of gold in the common karat values. The percentage of gold with the decimal point removed equals the European gold marking.

24 Kt. - 100% Gold = 1000
18 Kt. - 75% Gold = 750
14 Kt. - 58.3% Gold = 583
10 Kt. - 41.7% Gold = 417

Thanks for the post. But still a question. So when something is marked for example 585, does that me American gold not European? 585 = 14k, doesn't it?

Not a clue, I'm sorry to say. I've even seen fights over the two markings.

This is what I found:

"U.S. Composition European Grade
14K .583 gold/.417 alloy .585*
*slightly higher than U.S. standard"

Cool, the reason I was asking is because I was confused. I've had lots of pieces marked 375 and 333 and 585. People think it has to say 14k or 10k, not necessarily looking for three digit numbers. Thankyou for taking the time...I'll view link when I get some time...
