What does it mean to have a patent number stamped

Hi,
Hope I can get some help.
This is regarding a 14K 2ct bezel set diamond bracelet a week or 2 ago.
It is nice and chunky in gold weight. I am wondering what does it mean when it has a patent number and the word patent stamped ?
It also has the 14K and 2ct along with all I can assume is a signature of whoever made it.
Has anyone seen one done like that and can you tell me what it means. Does this increase or decrease it's value?
I did have it appraised the other day by a upstanding and old jeweler here in Al. He appraised it at over $2,000. It didn't dawn on me to ask these questions.
