WHITE JADE(?) PIN / BROOCH

WHITE JADE(?) PIN / BROOCH

Can anyone help me with this piece? I was advised to bring this here after a big discussion on jewelry & gemstones. I believe it's jade, but it's almost white!

It also has what possibly could be a ram's face/head at the top; I first thought a bull, but the horns are curled. It also has a simplle, thin, circular piece of silver circling it that holds it with tiny claws. It's marked sterling near the pin - but on the circular support.

Is jade white?  Is it old - with such a simple holder?

Is it worth anything more than the silver?

What does the ram/bull mean?

Any help is very much appreciated.

PS - In one photo I am holding the piece into the sunlight - another suggestion by the group in Jewelry & gemstones to determine if it's jade (in photo taken w/flash, some thought it looked like mother of pearl.

Here is a photo of the back + one at an angle that shows more of the details of the front.

Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

I think it looks like mop too..i can tell you jade has an oily feel when you run your thumb over it..

It has no oily feel to it, but even more so, it doesn't have the different colors that mop has when you shift it back & forth + looking at it with a 3x loop, there is no shine like I see on mother of pearl. Id there a way to test it without taking it to a jeweler?

If not, I guess I'll take it to be sure before I post it on ebay.

I wanted to add these photos both to give someone who knows a better perspective of the piece & also I was hoping that by adding these in the morning I might get new eyes to look at it & help me.

The 2 photos are of the piece facing the sun and then facing the sky away from sun - can anyone tell me if  this is jade and/or is there is a way to check if it's jade without going to a jewelrs? I want to put this on ebay, but don't want to misrepresent it to anyone.

Thank you.

First, you might want to post this on the regular Jewelry board just in case.  Second, it could be jade easily. It could also be serpentine.  Sometimes it's hard to say from a photo.
