Elimination of Order Confirmations on Half.com

Sep 30, 2005 3:11 PM
On October 20, 2005, the sale confirmation process will be removed from Half.com transactions. We are doing this after hearing from the majority of our sellers that it is a cumbersome and unneeded process. The following key points describe how this will change the way you do business on Half.com:

- You will no longer need to send confirmation files to Half.com. All sales are assumed confirmed when you receive them.

- You should ensure that all your listings on Half.com reflect inventory that you have in stock and available for shipment.

- You will have 3 business days to pack and ship your items from the date you receive the sale

- In the event that you cannot fulfill an order you will be required to issue a refund to the buyer as soon as possible.

- If you use bulk loading and order processing tools (like File Exchange), you will be able to issue refunds in bulk.

Elimination of Order Confirmations on Half.com

Actually I thought that was one of the good things about the site. There's no way to ALWAYS be sure of every single bit of your inventory. Books creep off sometimes, and the refund process on this site is really, really cumbersome. That is what was really in need of a change.

Elimination of Order Confirmations on Half.com

I believe half.com SHOULD NOT eliminate the order confirmation e-mail sent by sellers, because buyers then will know whether their orders have been fulfilled or not through e-mails.
If, that's say, I order items from 10 different Half.com sellers at the same time, I cannot keep track of who have confirmed the order and sent the items UNLESS I receive e-mail confirmations from each of them.

It is a MUST on half.com feature!!! PLEASE DON'T TAKE THAT AWAY!!

I've also had no problem with the confirmation process with Half.com. Ithought it was a great service. Sometimes I think it's what Ebay wants and not what the people want. I going to miss the confirmations at Half.com-better yet I don't want to see it go.

Ebay does not care what we want. They would like to eliminate Half.com. This is just a start of future eliminations of services.

Elimination of Order Confirmations on Half.com

Seriously! I like confirmations, for those times when I give a book away, leave town for a day or two, whatever. It is really necessary for small volume sellers who can't reorganize their lives around Half.com. It's one of the few things that has kept me from going to Amazon.

Why is this change being made? What's the defense of it?

And if the majority of sellers don't like it, why is no one defending this change?

Elimination of Order Confirmations on Half.com

I am really disappointed to hear the order confirmation feature will be gone. More than once I have had an order go unconfirmed and cancelled (buying, not selling), and I would hate to think what would happen if this feature was not in place. Since Media Mail shipping often takes 2-3 weeks, my payment could already be in the bank of the seller, and then it's a matter of trying to get them to issue a refund. Since they are not responsible enough to confirm or cancel their orders in the first place, think of how challenging this will become. Please re-think removing this feature.

The confirmation process was the best part of Half.com.
There are many things that needed to be improved but this was not one of them. Sellers need this so that they do not make a mistake.

I too will miss the confirmation process.........what would be ideal is a MyHalf Summary like the programming in Ebay..maybe intergrated within one if possible..thus allowing all sales to have the ability to show in a sold table.....ok....I may be wishing for a lot but seems a practical solution:)

Amazon.com does not have the confirmation process. I quit selling there because they charge the buyer's credit card, then it cost the seller more just because they may have misplaced or lost the book. THE BEST PART OF HALF.COM WAS THE CONFIRMATION PROCESS. PLEASE KEEP IT.

E-mail confirmation process was great feature by half.com. I will strongly request to ebay or half.com to bring it back.I urge all the sellers to put pressure half.com to bring this feature back on.

I agree with others that confirming is much less cumbersome than issuing refunds--and what seller has not had the experience of not being able to locate an item that should be in inventory??? I used to think the confirmation process was a pain, but now I really appreciate it. It will be VERY interesting to see if the near unaanimous support for it makes a difference.

I must agree with other replies - I like the confirmation process. Living in Hawaii, and having media mail take a little longer, I like the confirmation process. It tells my buyer that "yes, your item has been processed by a real person". Also, when I buy, I like to see that confirmation e-mail so I know my item is on the way.
