Not meeting the listing requirement? That's a new one. Did you add any description to your listing? Any word or word combination that might have triggered the half.com bots to delete you listing?

"Not a book club", or "Not an instructor's edition" are two examples that seem like they would be positive descriptive enhancements, but the bots over look the "not" and delete the listing thinking the book violates Half.com listing policies.

Another issue....
if you say something is "Like New" but in its listing, say "good condition", that can result in removal.

Or the "case cracked" under New...

I looked at a few pages of your book inventory...

since your descriptions are short and consistent, I would assume what was removed was the same and NOT IMHO grounds for removal.

A few other reasons for a removal could be (I didn't see any of this in your listings, just throwing it out there)

presale???

hardcover under paperback listing??? (sometimes the HDC listing is wrong..you may match the ISBN but their info is wrong they are saying for e.g. its a paperback when in fact it's a hardback or vice versa)

I just had 3 removed this morning. I don't understand why. There are sellers who have books listed as brand new, yet are "gently read once" and those are still listed.

I under rate my books, so I don't understand what the problems are other than they did not meet the listing requirements.

There are sellers who have books listed as brand new, yet are "gently read once" and those are still listed.

Probably, because no one has reported them.

Did your ISBN match?
Did your book match hardcover/paperback?
Did you use the words "NOT a" in your description?

Review the list of "not to be sold" on half.com ..make sure your items met all criteria not just matching "quality"

BTW, the NOT A description would be for e.g.
Not a Book Club Edition
Not an International Edition

You should always say what your book is, not what it isn't...

idaho-leather,

do you report the "gently read once" listings?
There are many reasons why a listing is removed, as stated in the previous post.

While HDC does rely on other buyers/sellers to report listing violations, they do not give enough info as to WHY a specific item was removed.

If you list a book as "like new" but say "Very good condition, clean, nice copy"... that is a listing violation.

these things *may* confuse HDC...
- no stains or tears
- No spine creasing
- no dog ears
- B.C. edition (not allowed on HDC)

so... you may want to check (and clean up) your inventory.

wow! Thanks, it has been years since I listed anything on there. I did not realize so many things had changed.
Guess I'd better go fix all mine then.

Re: Half.com delisting items that seem to meet requirements.

hello,
am including my responding email to the HDC staff. Had 2 removed yesterday and 2 this morning. All had only been listed for a few hours when they were removed, so appears they are scanning new listings.
All 4 of them have no obvious errors to me. MY concern is that we are not told specifically why, and once they are deleted, we can't see what was there. THIS IS NOT the least bit helpful, as not all of us are intentionally putting things in wrong categories. If they are scanning for phrases, then it would be most helpful to avoid them.

Customer Help Desk:

341260718567 - Street Smart : Tara Quinn (Paperback, 2004)
341261840302 - The Winter Lodge : Susan Wiggs (Paperback, 2007)

As I suggested MONTHS ago, it would be EXTREMELY helpful if you would include the WHOLE description of the items you have deleted. Once they are deleted from our inventory WE HAVE NO WAY of seeing the information. THUS we can not see what the problem was, in my situation, I can no longer see WHERE the item is located in our inventory of nearly 12,000 items!!! It is a little hard to learn from our MISTAKES if we can not see what they are! If you look at my feedback from customers, one thing that will stand out is that my books are in BETTER condition than described.

Adding our full description to the email that is sent to us should be a VERY simple step for you as programmers.

For many months i reported items that were obvious problems, and many of those are still listed. Personally, I felt like it was a waste of MY time to report improper listings when they were never removed. If your staff has decided to become diligent and check our listings, then can we please try to do it efficiently!

Myself, as a seller and an occasional buyer, depend upon the accuracy of the description quality. I in NO way am unhappy or question the deciding factors for quality ratings, and do my UTMOST to abide by them.

Sincerely,
DeAnna J Peters

You say "NOT" cannot be used in descriptions, but what if you want buyers to know the jacket isn't price clipped? You can't say "DJ is not price clipped"?

I may just remove all of them and give them away.
It seems like some get by with things, others can't. I just listed all mine in the last 2 days and wow! They are being pulled.

DJ in good condition....

be a bit careful... and don't try to get around the rules either. HDC can suspend your account until all violations are removed/cleared up.

pugpack1,

I was told to REPLY back to service@half.com, and ASK what the violations were... but I haven't received a reply to the ones that I had removed.

I doubt they will change the process, but at least they're doing something (as many thought they did nothing). :-p

yes, better some censorship, better than what appeared as none, and no response to "reporting violations".

i have had no response to my first email either, not even the standard "your message was received". Maybe more than one of us is complaining and they are busy!

I so often under-rate my books, I just find it ODD that suddenly I have problems with my quality ratings.

I list about 20 to 50 books each day, so am hesitant to list more until we see what is going on.

Will keep watching the thread for my helpful hints.

"Unclipped" and "uncreased" would seem to work.

Also "DJ intact".

Have always given detailed descriptions, each crease, rub, spot etc.
So for now will keep descriptions VERY brief and see if any of those get AXED!
