Army Air Corps Advanced Flying School ring

I'm seeking info about my Dad's 1941 ring. The stone that's set in it is a turquoise. The little info found so far indicates the original stones were synthetic ruby. Don't know if it's a replacement or original.

I'm seeking info about my Dad's 1941 ring. The stone that's set in it is a turquoise. The little info found so far indicates the original stones were synthetic ruby. Don't know if it's a replacement or original.

Would like to see some images of this ring.  AFAIK this ring was never a military issued item, probably privately bought at a jeweler and designed by the owner.

I'll have some images ready to go tomorrow (Monday), but am pretty convinced it's "official". I've seen photos online identical design.

I too found some old ones "out there", including some with the synthetic ruby.  I have a hunch these were optional items graduate pilots could purchase at the time if they desired, but they were not issued automatically.

Yes, this is the ring; 1941, my Dad's initials H.L.K. are engraved on the inside of the band, also on the inside of the band is stamped: Elliott 10-K. The motto around the stone reads: U.S. Army Air Corps Advanced Flying School.

There was probably a sales rep for Elliott who took orders from officers in the class.  When my unit returned to Germany from the Persian Gulf in 91 there was an enterprising German man there taking orders for laser etched plaques, ceramic mugs and other things. Google Elliott + class rings and you will find info that they also apparently made rings for West Point grads as far back as 100 or so years ago.

Thanks for the input, all. The question I had about the nature of the stone set in the ring has been settled: my fiancee and I were looking thru some old photos and found an 8 X 10 of Dad in uniform from about that time, and visible on his finger is the ring with what is obviously a very dark stone set in it. Probably the original synthetic ruby. He must have replaced it at a later time with the turquoise for a now unknowable reason.
