Galapagos WWII

I recently found in one of my Mom's files two Japanese dog tags and some military pictures of my Dad. He was in WWII and was staitoined there during the war, and wanted to nkow if there was combat on those islands during that time, and if the Japanese soldiers did in fact fight there with us.

Thank you

I did see that site, and then searched other sites.. Could not come up with anything definitive, so that is why I came here.

One site read that Japanese prisoners were on the island of Baltra during that time..  Thank you

You have to remember that Galapagos is the name for the entire island chain, and while Japanese prisoners were held on the island of Balta there (the US was allowed a naval base by Ecuador), there was no active WWII combat between US forces and the Japanese in the entire Galapagos.  Grandpa could have won those ID tags in a poker game. But I do respect his service in the war.

Yes, I do know that Galapagos is the name for the island chain.:)

Is  Balta and Baltra the same island? As when I do a search they both come up as where we had a station during the war.

As for *Grandpa* ,nope it was Dad, and while he could have won them in a poker game,I know he did fight in the war, as have his  Purple Heart, and Bronze Star..

So who knows where these tags came from. They have been put away since the mid 50's  as I know that ..

Thanks, as to all of the people who serve to protect us.

Yes, I'm sorry, your DAD was in service, I noticed my typo after I posted it but there's no way to edit a posted reply.  Balta is the name of island.  If your Dad earned a Purple Heart he was in combat somewhere and was injured.  Do you have his WWII service records?

Yes he was injured and got quite ill as well.

I haveno one to ask about my Father as everyone is gone now. I don't know where he was in the service except that they used to talk about the Galopoes and the lizards and tortoises..

That was basically all he ever mentioned about the war.. I haven't found any military records as of yet. Thank you
