Identify 1868 F L G Medal

I have a medal with the letter F L G and the year 1868.  On the back it was made by A. W. Mitchell Boston.

My family lived in Boston at the time. Does anyone know what the initials F L G may stand for? Thanks!

I don't know what F L G stands for but the maltese cross was originally a symbol for the Knights of St John who were based at Malta. Firefighters have adopted the Maltese cross as their symbol so your cross was probably from a fire dept around Boston.

That also looks like a capital I in the center.  There's a website that has association acronyms.
