Hello,

I recently purchased this lot of military pins, I have an idea of what some of them are, but thought I would ask for a second opinion.

The full photo album is here including close-ups as I can only post two in this thread. - http://photobucket.com/armypinz

There are 11 total. I will include pictures. There are 7 gold pins with crossed swords, they have letters on them from A - D and there are two, one with the number 9 and the other with the # 6.

There is one with two guns crossed.

There are two smaller pins, one says "U.S." - on the back it is marked N.S. Meyers INC N.Y.C. and on the right side it says Meyers with an arrow under it and then Metals under that.

The second pin I think is an Aviators Machinist Pin? It says "Acid Test" on the back, the wings are gold and the propeller is silver.

The questions I have about these pins:

Are they original?

What era/war were they issued?

Could some of them be real gold? (the crossed sword pins look like they could be)

Any idea on value?

What do the letters/numbers mean?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

It's Cavalry, not Calvary.  Nice assortment of vintage Cavalry officer insignia.  Probably WWII - VietNam era.  The letters and numbers refer to the different regiments and troops/companies a soldier could be assigned.  Here's a link to the history of the Cavalry insignia (obsolete now, btw) where you can get some information about them.

There is also a pair of crossed cannons (officer Artillery branch) and a set of aviation officer insignia.  Check ongoing and completed listings to get an idea of value in this venue.  A jeweler can check to see if any of the pins are gold.
