I guess the 1934 book does... KARL HUBENTHAL!
I found this on the net... hope it helps!
........ ALL of the SENIOR Student Portraits are NOT Photographs. They are Individual ILLUSTRATIONS. See Photos below. HOW GREAT IS THAT????
EVEN BETTER is that this is the SENIOR YEAR for AWARD WINNING Cartoonist / Illustrator KARL HUBENTHAL. He was the ART EDITOR of THIS Yearbook. I LOVE how he SIGNED his Name on the Yearbook Staff Portrait. You can see it was the BEGINNING of the Signature STYLE he continued throughout his ILLUSTRIOUS Career. Hubenthal can be seen 3 times. There are TWO Illustrated Portrait Photos by TWO DIFFERENT Artists and in the CARTOON CLUB Group Photograph. ADDITIONALLY, there are FOUR (4) FULL PAGE Hubenthal Illustrations and THIRTY (30) 1 1/2" Square Cartoons. I've tried to show as many as I could below. Hubenthal's Influence and Mentor was WILLARD MULLIN. Karl LITERALLY began his newspaper career at THIS TIME in the art department of the Los Angeles Evening Herald-Express. He started drawing a weekly sports cartoon in 1938, and two years later was named Top Sports Cartoonist of the Year at the New York World's Fair. Hubenthal received the National Cartoonist Society Editorial Cartoon Award for 1961, 1967, and 1970, and their Sports Cartoon Award for 1971, 1979, 1980, and 1982. SPEAKING of the NCS .... a BIG 3 Part CONGRATULATIONS to MAD MAGAZINE'S AL JAFFEE for "Folding Home the Gold" 2 years ago in New Orleans. It was HIGHLY DESERVED and BAFFLEING why it took SO LONG!!!.
I'll be Honest..... I had not known of Hubenthal until I stumbled upon a TERRIFIC website while researching info for a Willard Mullin Los Angeles High School BLUE + WHITE Yearbook I sold recently on eBay. Check Out BOBSTAAKE.COM. You'll be GLAD You Did. Bob was Friends with Hubenthal and runs the OFFICIAL Tribute site. LOTS of OTHER GREAT Stuff there as well. I noticed Karl did a LOT of Los Angeles Dodgers Program and Yearbook Cover Art like his Baseball Mentor Willard Mullin did with the New York Mets in the 1960's.
