Question on antique cannons

Question on antique cannons
Mar 8, 2012 05:57 PM

I had my listing for an antique 1870 black powder signal cannon, mounr and carriage pulled by ebay because it is a cannon.  I've seen similar cannons for sale and sold on ebay and I had the disclaimer that it is for signaling only on it, so I thought it would be okay.  This is a family heirloom piece, not the usual thing I sell.  Can anyone help me out with where I might be able sell it other than on ebay?  Thank you for any advice you can offer...LC

Gunbroker.com or CL if you want to deal local. CL prohibits firearms but I know starter pistols are OK so your item should be also.

Hi -

If you have any questions at all about cannons, you might want to post on the ANTIQUES board & ask for Springfield. He knows more about cannons than just about anyone!

Ebay recently (past few days I guess) changed their policy on even salute/signal cannons which had been allowed for the past few years.  They are now prohibited, from what I'm hearing from the grapevine.  Check Ebay rules to see if there's anything on it, but I'll bet any cannons fit into their firearms prohibition and they just made a bit of a more strict interpretation on the existing rule.  Agree with trying elsewhere.

I don't know what ebay's reasoning for this is, but perhaps it's because they believe it could be used as a regular cannon.

Reasoning?

Optimist!
