What kind of military ribbon/medal is this?

My husband was given this along with several of his Uncle's other things years ago (husband was 13 and is 56 now).  His Uncle was in the service back in the early 1960s.  We've not been able to find anything out about this and his Uncle is deceased so we can't ask him.

Ascalon Medal/ribbon

The ribbon is navy blue and the white portions of the medal surrounding the round portion are enamel.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Not military.  Resembles some Knights Templar crosses.  Check fraternal medals and awards.

The word "Ascalon" would be either the name of the town they were in, or the name of the particular lodge.

Thank you so much!  Now we have another mystery to unravel as we had no idea he was a member of this organization.
