Title problems with an eBay purchased motorcycle.

Ok, I'm young and stupid. That out of the way, I bought a bike off eBay. Went to pick it up Saturday. I paid in cash to the owners wife, he wasn't home. Unfortunately, He had not gotten the title notarized, but it was signed. I talked to her about it and she agreed we would meet up this week to get the title transferred. I figured that sounded fine. Got home and started going through my papers when I noticed the name on the title did not match the name eBay was reporting, as well the name he was signing his emails with. I don't think this guy transferred the title from the previous owner, or worse, maybe it was somehow stolen, although I don't know many people who leave their titles with the bikes. Still. I am kind of freaking out here. What can I do? I live in Pennsylvania, is there anywhere I can go to get this title checked out? Online vehicle history websites don't do motorcycles. Any help is appreciated.

Title problems with an eBay purchased motorcycle.

Phil, as well as Dan and John, grew up about 20 miles from me, and I first heard them when they played at my high school (pics in my year book), and I often went to Kent, Ohio to hear them play while in college. I've got all but the latest of the Glass Harp CDs, and about 20 CDs (but not all) of Phil's solo material. Awesome musician, great person. I still try to hear them play at least once year, keep missing the free concerts though.

He is bloody mezmerizing. He played maybe 2 hrs of improv, and lulled the audience where I was into a trance. Inspiring musician, to say the least.

Purchased a 1985 Kawasaki off ebay no problem with it, all good, however when I go to charge a new battery for it battery acid virtually wipes out title. Harrisburg rejects it and tells me to have original owner obtain duplicate and sign off again. Herein lies the problem seller on ebay never states he has not redid title when he bought it. Now the first guy who sold it on ebay to him does not respond to my requests about this. Had i known this was second hand transaction I would have walked away. What to do? Wouldn't have been a problem maybe but I still wouldnt have bought it had i known the title wasn,t in his name. Can anybody say screwed!!! All motorcycle possible purchasers beware!

Only read a few posts so forgive me if I should understand from the thread, but what the heck is this "notarization" and what does in involve?

It sounds incredibly like it involves Lawyers on a simple vehicle sale!

I happened to witness a good one here in Pa a couple of weeks back.  I stopped at a yard sale in Leeper Pa.  Guy had a motorcycle there for sale and he and another guy who stopped were dickering on the price.  The engine was locked up so the exchange was pretty intensive and got my attention.

It did not end well for the seller. They ended up agreeing on a price and while the buyer was giving him money down they started talking title.

The title was not in the sellers name and the buyer was a cop!:^O

I'm here to tell you that cop was pizzed.  Don't know what happened from there but I'm bettin it wasn't pretty.
