CLUE#1:

This group was named after a city's famous landmark.

Chicago Transit Authority?  (Not really a landmark I guess, maybe if they'd called themselves The El or The Loop...)

The Brooklyn Bridge is correct, which by the way I have on BIN if anyone is interested, a bit old but still works I used them once on my annual 'Who's Your Pablo Cruise' xmas thread. Johnny Maestro sure could belt 'em out, as evidenced below:

Bumping again.  It's been more than a week.  Per original rules, Pantherboy can post the next game.

Ah yes, and the P-man has been busy with all things summer as well.  SEVERE drought here in WI as well as most of the midwest. Worst I've seen since 1988.  I've taken to watering my trees this week.

On to our next clue:

Peanut butter...

The Jam is the first thing that popped into my head, too, and you've got to have something to put it on so I was going to guess Bread, but I think instead I'll guess..

ELVIS!

Sorry everyoen - I have been on a family vacation and just returned.

Elvis was a very good guess, but this young man (also a longtime legend in his genre) used the peanut butter for a different purpose than eating.

He was played in a semi-recent movie about the 70s along with (some one playing) another icon from that era.

I was also thinking The Gentrys, but if it's a single guy...

Real name was 'James' or Jimmy" when he started out as an amateur drummer.  Now he is a singer and legend in his genre.

Polestar gets it!  I can't believe we haven't covered the Igster up until now.

Here is the legendary footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5kY2mets5Y&feature=fvst

Here is one of my favorite songs he wrote - later covered by Siouxie and the Banshees: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbMR7o0RyoA&feature=related

CLUE#1:

This band originally had a slightly longer name, but when the lead singer left and two new members joined (a new singer and a new guitarist), they quite naturally had to remove a word. What is the name of this group when it was a five-man band?

CLUE#3:

The lead singer had a solo career that overlapped with the group in question, and later when he left would skyrocket; the guitarist also left because he was tiring of gathering moss, presumably..
