Ok - I thought of this in the shower (where I do all my best thinking, for some reason......) RULES: - I will list clues about a band. - You try to guess the band - If you need more clues, I will post a maximum of 3 - The winner gets a nifty video of said band to watch and admire (posted by me) - The winner has the option to give out clues for the next band, or I will by default

Maybe his tubes are tied right now? I wish I had more time and know I would be on regularly, seems like I'm not the only one with this problem... "Seamonkeys not exactly as shown."

Plumeted to the end of page 4 -could this be the end of the Name That Band thread???
Maybe someone can name an influential Boston band from the late 80s that spun off into TWO successful solo careers that carried on for years.

Same here. Thanks for keeping the thread alive, but I don't know my late 80s (and later) bands.

Both artists are female, and cousins. Both are guitarists.

One guitarist currently performs solo and with a band in a more hard-edged style. The other was a brief member of The Breeders before they became hugely popular and went on to front her own successful band for two albums.

WTF is going on with Ebay?
I posted a huge response, and it wouldn't post. At all. Not to mention all the problems with categories. You would think one of the largest sites on the entire WWW would be able to make their site work. wow...

Polestar has the WIN!
I guess I am typing all of this for the SECOND time. Thanks Ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
I really don't know much about Throwing Muses, but I have been following Tanya since Belly and I am currently obsessed with Kristin Hersh's hardest rocking efforts EVER!
Here is a muses tune with both cousins sharing vocals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8ru9lyU-nE&feature=related
Here is a great clip of one of my favorite Tanya Donelly songs:

Kristin Hersh really means business with her newest band 50 ft Wave. Check out the amazing drummer!

On to Polestar!

I'm glad someone got it. Not many regulars here now. At least, not regularly!
Re. your lost response, I see there's a new feature where the text box opens up (with animations) inside the thread. Fancy but unnecessary, and apparently with bugs. Also, if it's showing the response in the place where it's going to end up, why not show it in the format it will be, but editable? i.e. why are there still "preview" and "go back and edit" buttons
(Warning: incoming rant...)
I'm amazed to see untested and non-working changes still going "live" on major websites. Ebay has done this many times before, and I suspect the cause of the recent categories problem, is the premature release of incomplete changes. Again! And there was a recent thread about another site with log-in problems which, as I predicted, were a Javascript problem.
I used to work in I.T. (wish I still did, it pays well), and we would NEVER have tested a change using limited testing with 1 browser, or 1 set of internet options (i.e. presuming everyone has all kinds of scripting turned on), and been oblivious to the reality that people access the internet in many different ways. That's the sign of a testing team being run by people with no professional training or experience.
Making your website incompatible for some users, deliberately, is just lazy. Making in incompatible without realizing it, is worse, and makes a company look unprofessional. In the company I worked for, testing was looked upon as a computer science in itself, with documented standards.
Frankly, this problem usually occurs after outsourcing to other countries, but that really doesn't explain why a company can't control the TESTING of changes, regardless of where, and by who, the changes were coded. If most of an I.T. department is outsourced to India (for example), you don't leave the testing to the team in India, any more than you'd leave it to them to proofread their work. (No offence intended to anyone from India. If an Indian company outsourced their work to any other country that speaks a different language, or has different industry standards, the same concern applies. It has to do with international differences, not particular countries.)
And one more thing: if a change does "go live" and is found to be causing a problem, retract it and don't put it out again until the problem is really fixed. The live environment is not a place for "retesting". The company I worked for, had to learn about that more than once, but eventually it became a rule.
End of rant!

Had to 'fish' a little to get that one, I had heard of them but not heard any of their music, although I had heard The Breeders and Belly before but didn't know about the connection.

Know your power pop or know your accouterments - or know both! Nice job pinkfloyd_the_barber, got it on the first guess.
Some bands in this sub-genre made it big nationally and some didn't, like Shoes, even if they are well-regarded. I probably would not have known about them if it were not for the early days of MTV where they had some music videos, I don't recall ever hearing them on the radio down my way although they probably got some airtime on college stations.
Anyway, here's a nice album cut from back when, a little bit of 'sole' if you will, off of the Tongue Twister LP:

Can't remember if I've done this artist before, but here it is anyway:
CLUE#1: This U.K. singer/musician's first chart success was in the form of a question, and another even bigger hit a few albums later got huge rotation on MTV. Can you name him?
