****New Feature for Music**** Item Specifics are now available in the Music Category! Item Specifics is designed to help sellers capture details that help buyers find what they're looking for quickly and easily. In other categories, items listed with Item Specifics experience significantly higher sell-through rates and prices than items without, so please take advantage of this new feature. Item Specifics Background: With Item Specifics, the seller can provide details in the Sell Your Item from predetermined lists of key characteristics (e.g., album type, genre, record speed). Buyers can then use a "Product Finder" to search with these same characteristics when browsing or searching. For an example of how Product Finders work on the site today, please look at the Men's Shirts category. For example, in the Men's Shirts category, buyers can search using the Movies Product Finder by size, color, and/or condition. Music Product Finder Within the Music category, there will be Product Finders for CDs, Records, Cassettes, and Other Formats. Within each, buyers will be able to search by genre and sub-genre of music. Record buyers will also be able to search by record speed, and CD buyers will be able to search by single, full-length album, or box set. See below for how the Product Finder will be displayed to buyers and the type of information that will be asked of the item in the Sell Your Item Form. How will this work? Let's say a seller wants to sell Michael Jackson's "Thriller" LP. The seller would use "Pop" as the Genre, "1980s" as the Sub-Genre, "LP (12")" as the record size, and 33 RPM as the record speed when listing their item. If a buyer enters the Music category to look for a record, a buyer could select "Pop" and look at all pop records, including the seller's item. Another buyer looking for new 33RPM records could select "33RPM" and see all of those listings, including the seller's item. What will I need to do? You'll want to list your items using Item Specifics now to realize the higher sell-through rates and higher average selling prices that often come with Item Specifics. Start by carefully reading the table below and thinking about how you will use these descriptors for the items you sell. If you list items manually through the Sell Your Item form or Turbo Lister, you will see the new options as soon as they launch. If you have any comments or feedback about Music Item Specifics, please email them to music_cat_changes@ebay.com. Thanks for your interest!

I HATE this new feature. The buyer can search for any of this stuff on their own, or they can browse down to any of these categories. They probably already have a favorite search hyperlink for "33 1/3" or "1980" if that's what they collect!

As a seller, I don't necessarily know what genre or decade a record or CD or cassette came from. The buyer who collects it will know, and they will search for what they are looking for.

My vote is GET THAT FEATURE OFF!!!!!!

Yep - get rid of it - It's blocking my ability to submit listings - I have 300 ready to go but my software doesn't recognize these changes and bang - I've got 300 listings sitting there - just more work for sellers to go thru. Things were working fine - I'm a buyer as well and would rarely if ever use this feature.

Hey Cliff ~ I'm a long time music Powerseller and just had to begin dealing with the item specifics for music cats. Since I am also a bookseller and on the "Voices of the Category" team, I at least had some idea of what this is all about. However - I still have some questions: Under the genres and sub-genres specifics there are options to either leave them blank or select "-". I assume that "-" is equilavent to "other". My questions are : How will buyers know what "-" means???? How will either of these options interact with a normal keyword search???? While books tend to be higher end items for me, CDs are my "bread and butter" sales. We sellers need more info on how our selections are going to effect the end results of buyer searches so that we can make intelligent choices when using the PF specifics. Please respond ! Thanks, Beckir

We need a specific catagory for Beatles Vinyl and CD. Ebay please do this for all of us Beatles buyers and sellers.

AaaaarrrrrGHH! These categories just slow you down when you're trying to post -- most people don't search according to "genre" anyway!
Go ahead and yuppy-ize the heck out of ebay but, PLEASE realize that real people don't even think about "genre" in their music selection!!
Something else to choose "other" for so that we can go on like before!!

This has to be the worst of the bad upgrades to E-bay. Slows me down while listing. I have to put in the category twice. The search engine screen now looks cluttered. Why can't e-bay just leave things as they are.

Before you know it, it will take longer to list something than it takes for the auction to end.

What a drag. :(

It has its advantages and disadvantages. Currently the disadvantages out weigh the advantages.

As a buyer I really dislike this new feature.

BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD PLAIN MUSIC CATAGORY

I HATE this new feature. It takes twice as long to list stuff, because the genres (and especially sub-genres) are so lame that everythat has to go into "other", which for some reason we have to verify at least twice.
This is TERRIBLE!!!
PLEASE go back to the old system.
Maybe this works for "Men's Shirts" but not music.

Is this why we have to pay so much in e-bay fees to fund this type of "upgrades".

Why does ebay find it necessary to re-invent the wheel every month by changing something (usually for the worst)

BTW DJ Dance and Industrial should not be linked. Very different styles.

Cheers!

As a buyer, this is something I will NEVER use! It makes no sense, and the product genre categories are too vague.

As a seller, I also don't like this "feature". I have listed auctions with and without item specifics.. with NO DIFFERENCE in final bid totals. I don't like the fact that after I select a category for the auction, the item specifics ask for the very same information a second time! With no noticable increase in sales, I don't see the need for this.

I much preferred the old music categories. They at least made sense.

I listed some records the other day for the first time in a long time and the resentment I felt when I got to the Category and Item Specifics was practically physical. Not just because the new system is useless and has crippled sales for so many sellers, but at the arrogant, cynical way this thing was shoved down out throats. I hate being jerked around and in this case my "uh oh, you're getting jerked around" alarm was ringing like crazy.
Will someone from eBay please explain to me why this is a better system? For us, the "community", the people who buy and sell Music, not for eBay's bottom line.
