You have half a symphony? I can't see it being worth much. How do you determine the set is rare? I presume by ASD you mean the prefix used by HMV (His Master's Voice) in the UK (please don't ask how I know that!), which is not an uncommon label. You can't measure rarity by how many times it appears on ebay. Pick any one classical music album; what are the chances of it being on ebay right now? And even if it is, many times, it might not be there at all next month. So you can't measure rarity that way. You've also said nothing about the orchestra or conductor, the record's age, its condition, whether it's mono or stereo... all could be factors in how desirable it is to collectors, which is independent of rarity.

worth a shot ! someone might have a damaged 602 . in that case for thier 100 bucks they could end up with a set worth well over 1000.

Well I'll say it again. Unless there's something really special and limited-edition about this particular set, a major label classical music LP isn't going to be worth $1000, or even $100. Your pricing of records reminds me of record price guide books that habitually claim $250 prices on records that can be found for $15. Don't take this personally, but I wouldn't pay the prices you list on your current auctions. I'm sure any of those records can be found for much less by looking around.

Ok here we go again. Here is one can't seem to find a value for and a pretty cool lp. Pre Turtles The Crossfires Out of Control lp on Rhino label RNLP 019 think it is a 1981 issue.

How much would a new Arzachel - Arzachel CD be worth? It is unopened and it is the earlier 1996 version, not the re-release.
Thanks!

Presuming you mean the (originally) obscure 1960s Canterbury band with Steve Hillage, it has been reissued quite a few times. Discogs dot com lists a bunch of versions, none of which are dated 1996 (according to them). So I don't know which version you have, nor which later version you refer to. Wikipedia only mentions one CD reissue as official, but that could easily be one person's opinion. Note that some versions have bonus tracks, which could make a difference.
If you're looking for an edition that's valuable to collectors, the original LP editions (of which there are 2 versions, see the discogs link) are worth hundreds, the rest have potentially here today, gone tomorrow values (which is just my opinion).

Hi, I have a 45 listed that I found sell for 300-500 on popsike. I've listed it but I cannot find it in the goldmine book. How much is Powered by Love: Powered by Love/Magic Carpet Ride worth?

Never heard of that record, but Popsike is a better guide to prices than Goldmine. The former is a log of actual sales, the latter is a guess from a self-proclaimed authority. (I know, there's supposed to be more to it than that, but in reality, that's what it is.) Be certain the edition you see on Popsike exactly matches yours, and take its condition into consideration.

Thanks. I've realized that there's a big difference between "worth" and selling price. It is the same record and I've posted scans and described sound.

I think you mean to say there's a difference between worth and asking price or opening bid amount. The selling price is what it's worth. It's worth whatever it sells for. Anyway, good luck with your auction.

The Sounds of Dawn

Does anyone have information on the group The Sounds of Dawn? I have looked on the web and all over trying to find out about this group. the only think that I have found out is that it is Northern Soul and a group from Chicago. I am actually surprised there is no material available on them on the web.

Their songs can be found on Youtube, but aside from that, I can't see much. Of course since the band name uses common words, you will get lots of false results from a Google search. If they had a less common name, their entries would more likely be at the top.
You didn't say where you heard they are regarded as Northern Soul. If that came from a Youtube comment or the categorization of their lone entry on discogs dot com, be advised that the NS label is thrown around rather indiscriminately. Some people seem to think everything is Northern Soul.

Just a broad question. I have to liquidate a estate. There is about 500-700 Albums in mint condition from the 40s 50s 60s Is a one time bulk sale a good idea. And where would i do that at if so. Thank you for any advise on a path to take. " what can we do to make doing business easier for you and make it possible for you to hire more people?" -Mitt Romney 6-19-12

The previous 2 posts have impossilbe-to-answer questions. I recommend reading some of the earlier posts in this thread.
A few generalities:
If you know nothing about records, or how to grade (though it's not hard to learn), and do not have a turntable, it's very difficult to describe or value your records. You may be better off taking them to a second hand record store and getting whatever they offer.
We frequently get asked about an old family record collection, or a collection that belonged to someone else. People who find such things often get excited when they see famous names: Bing Crosby, etc. Unfortunately, these are often the records of least value. The records that look like they might be worth something, usually aren't. And the records that don't look valuable, usually aren't either, though if you have any that really are valuable, they will probably be in the latter category!
All I can suggest is that you list a few that you may be wondering about, and we'll tell you if they have value. But don't get your hopes up in advance.
