In my mother law basement I found about 40-60 records 78 RPM wth a Beltrone Recording Label. Some of these records have 2-3 holes punched in the center, some with no label at all. I played some of them and cannot figure out who the artists are. Does anyone have a clue on who would have done recordings at this studio? Thanks

What you have are acetates, which are privately and individually made. They could be anything from amateur recordings to demos to promos to radio transcriptions. They can have value if they are by known artists, especially if they contain unreleased recordings. But since you can't identify any artists, you're probably stuck with trying to sell them as a lot to whoever might be interested in buying these records randomly. There is collector interest in these, so it's not a waste of time to list them, but you can't expect to receive a lot of money for anonymous records.

Hi;
I purchased a bunch of 45's today and these stand out. Any idea of their worth:
Deftones 7 Words/Teething 45 rpm today. Beautiful blue vinyl and it's a promotional. Original sleeve.
Small Factory. Vernon Yard Recordings. 1994., also a promotional. Original sleeve.
This one is 33 1/3. Fastway. One side only. Far Far From Home. Demostration. Not for sale. Plain white sleeve.
thanks;

Sorry I haven't been answering questions on this thread lately. I've fallen behind! Don't really have answers for most of them.
I replied to myjunkshop on a separate thread.
To joyfulgoth: you have a UK edition. When researching UK records, it's best to go to ebay's UK website where you're more likely to find other copies.
To therhinestoneowl: Sorry, I don't know anything about any of those!

Hello everyone.
First, I'm new to all of this. So I really appreciate any help you're able to give.
I've recently stumbled upon a cache of vinyl records that I have had in the basement for 50 years or more.
One of my favorites is a factory sealed vinyl LP that's been stored away in the basement since the day it was bought - Gladys Knight & The Pips Singing The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack "Claudine" (Released in 1974 by Buddah Records - BDS 5602).
The "editorial review" on Amazon says it's rare and highly sought after, but I'm confused as to why there are two "mint" and sealed copies on Amazon going for only $18.75 or so apiece, and another on Amazon going for as much as $149.98? What might account for such a huge diffrence in asking price when it's the same identical product being offered in factory sealed, mint condition?
If you can steer me in the right direction as to where and how I can learn more about the true (or approximated) value of this so-called "rarity" (and many other LPs I have) I'd appreciate it.
Alan

obliged2dobusiness: Checking ebay's current and completed listings can give you a good idea on a lot of your records including this one. I didn't check those a-zon listings, but Goldmine shows $30 in NM. Unless that high priced listing has something unique about it, it looks like the other two are more in-line with reality.
linkup-in-space: There are a couple of Japan pressed promos of that album listed, is yours the same or a U.S. pressed promo; also is it simply a gold-stamped promo or some such on the cover or a white label promo label? The signatures' provenance will be important as well.
kens540cid: The JFK inaugural address has appeared on many releases over the years, so they tend to be a hard sell. You could google the record label along with the catalog number and see if anything unique or interesting turns up.

The big problem with "old time radio" (or "OTR" as fans call it, and which Radiola records specialized in) is that thousands if not millions of shows, including any that was ever issued on LP, are available for free on the internet. And it's all public domain. Check out the menu at archive.org which is an academically supported website that respects copyrights, so you can use it without feeling guilty about getting free content from one of those "rogue" sites. When searching that site, select "Audio - radio programs" as the content type.
I wasn't aware that Radiola declared any of their albums as "limited edition", but even so, I doubt those records have much collector value. I have a few OTR LPs, because it's still convenient for me to put on an LP, and they're usually sold cheap.

I have an original version of the ROLLING STONES classic release "Some Girls" on Cd, see item # 271055431089, which when I listed it eBay did NOT have shown in its product template. The cover artwork is different as well as the record label then all the others eBay has in its data base for the release.
So does that make mine more collectible? I'm getting lots of views but so far no bids, which is very depressing since it's the Stones and it's their 50th Anniversary this year as well. I believe the one I have listed is rare, out of print and collectible. Am I right? Please let me know if you know.
Thanks, saintly-sinner

saintly-sinner: The one you have listed is the original CD issue from 1989 (the album of course was orig. released in 1978), but unfortunately it's not rare even though it is indeed out of print. I believe the favored one for fans is the 1994 reissue which was remastered, came in original album packaging (mini LP if you will, die-cut cover with an inner sleeve to hold the cd, and this went in a clear 'Digikase' which frustratingly was slightly larger than a normal jewelcase, so it wouldn't fit in a CD spinner rack!). I have that one myself. There have been subsequent remasters, and I've not heard them myself, but my understanding is that they were not remastered as well as the first remaster/reissue. Yours still might be sellable, but probably a nominal amount.

The one saintly-sinner has on auction is truly OUT OF PRINT and does have superior sound quality over many of the so called remastered ones. Can't believe it's yet to get a bid!!! Damn! What's the world coming too when a classic OOP Stones Cd can't get a $3.00 bid?!!! That's a damn shame!!!!

was cleaning out an old storage locker and came across a box of 331/3 albums....one in particular had a horrible image of four persons in what appear to be lab coats with what I am hoping are just doll parts and not actual human babies strewn about....I don't recall the artist name..I threw this one in the dumpster because of the disturbing picture on the cover but kept the Lawrence Welk, Big Tiny Little and Connie Francis records ...did I do good??? If you come across any more worthless records, say for instance any 78s by a "Robert Johnson", or some guy called "Elvis" on Sun Records, send them to me, as I'm collecting donations for a thrift shop.

It would be easier to answer if you had told us the title of the album. Those songs came out on "Original Musiquarium" which was a double album compilation, available to the public. Is your record just a promo version of that album? Do you know for certain "Front Line" is a different version from that album? "Front Line" was issued (to the public) on a 12 inch single identified as a "disco vocal mix" which may be different from the album version, and is probably the same as your version. Hope that helps.

This is the first time I have visited this board and am so excited to find all the great and helpful threads you have tacked at the top. I have a number of records that came from the estate of Skeeter Davis a country singer. Some of the records were promotionals given to her by friends in the record industry. I will list a couple at a time for help. I wish eBay still let us look up months of past auctions instead of a couple of weeks. Thanks in advance! Sun Records Elvis Presley with Scotty and Bill I Forgot To remember To Forget (kesler-feathers) 223 Hi Lo Music BMi Vocal U-157 Memphis Tennessee Opposite side Mystery Train (Parker-Phillips) Elvis Presley Scotty and Bill 223 Vocal U-156 It is in the original green sleeve and has been played with scuffs and marks. Do I need to see how each record plays? Doll Lady
