I charge $5.77 for shipping. Now before you get all bent out of shape what's the difference if you pay $4 for the record and $5.77 for shipping or you pay $6 for the record and $3.77 for shipping. Most of my vinyl is competitively priced using the total cost. If you'd be furious then don't buy as the shipping charges are plainly listed. SHIGGIES VINYL THANKS YOU

Media mail in the US for an lp is under $3, so I would pass you right by. Good luck with that.

Shiggies is alright, but I always look elsewhere myself when I see those hefty shipping prices. In fact, if Shiggies is telling people to not shop at their store if the customer does not like their prices, unfortunately that is what most people will do.

I do not see that Shiggies is at a total loss for business. However, even if you do not directly tell people that you include the shipping, Panther is right, the high shipping is a turn off to most people, and you may as well kiss some of your business goodbye.

Shiggies always has some cool Psych, Soul, and Funk collectibles, but the reason why I never buy from them is because the shipping is the negative factor.

Yup, Panther is right, and you will not see a dollar out of me even if I was desperate to want to buy something you have for sale.

Shiggies says: If you'd be furious then don't buy as the shipping charges are plainly listed. SHIGGIES VINYL THANKS YOU Yup, Shiggies is right about that. I won't even walk into your Ebay store at those prices!!:^O

It only costs me to ship 1 record for $2.77, and whether it is one, or 2 records, my combined shipping is always $4.00 no matter what. Then for each additional record would be $0.25 extra a piece from there. I see no point in milking anybody if they already have to pay for a record anyway.....

Just my 2 cents...........

to reiterate
what is the difference if you pay $4 for the record and $5.77 for shipping or you pay $6 for the record and $3.77 for the shipping or $9.77 for the record and $0 for shipping in all three cases the total cost is $9.77

thats where we competitively price our records ( at TOTAL COST ) most people see that and business has been really great lately

SHIGGIES VINYL THANKS YOU

I charge $3 for shipping within the U.S. I should charge $4. The postage is generally $2.00-$2.50 but you have the added cost of the box, cardboard inserts, record sleeve, poly sleeve, business card, tape, return labels and most importantly, my time going to the Post Office. People need to understand there is a cost involved. I do not make money on postage - I lose money.

If you're losing money on postage might need to rethink your strategy?

Some sellers overcharge on shipping for records and CDs

Some even  charge for handling-Doesn't take that much effort to put an item in a box etc.

Guess shipping will cost more since rates are going up on Monday

Handling usually includes the cost of supplies: the box, tape, packing peanuts, etc.

The problem of a great range of shipping costs, becomes greater with international sales.  Some sellers don't know how much the shipping will be, so they just guess something huge to be safe.  I don't buy from sellers who charge too much for shipping (unless I think I can get an item for much less than my maximum, to compensate).  I've often found some sellers will quote one price in the auction, but then charge much less, because they found it the postage wasn't as much as they thought.  That was years ago, though; I think that fees are now based on shipping as well, so sellers probably no longer charge less than what's quoted.  Even so, the solution is to not bid when postage, or any other terms, are unreasonable.

If you can source the right cardboard, consider making your own boxes. Once you create the template, practice a bit, and establish an efficient workflow. It becomes easier with practice, of course. Through this method I've managed to create stronger, lighter boxes that cost almost nothing.

Sourcing here is the key.

The cheapest best quality LP Mailers are from Uline, they have a 13 X 13 by 2 inch mailer for about  .63 cents a piece I think with freight..They have offices and wherehouses across the USA..

There is also Bags Unlimited and they charge more, yet less for freight..I like Uline the best as they have a huge catalog and the 13 X 13 X 2 inch mailer works great as you get to add some extra wrapping in the box to protect against any damage to the corners of the jackets..it is a perfect size for anywhere between 1-5-6 LP's and they have a toll-free-order-hotline to order from..

Hi Holly, it would help you a whole bunch if you'd list the titles of your Lp's in either the title and description, You'll be lucky if you get even 6 hits on that listing, people search by either title or artist, not "Vintage Lp's"

and now you're violating e-bay policy by advertising you listings on the message boards.

consider your self schooled and reported.

I have bought many records on Ebay and some have used this method. I did have one person send a record wrapped only in brown paper!!...I could not believe it and the record was broken when I received it.

Great advice on shipping! Thank you.

I had a simular experience where this person wrapped the album in brown paper alone! That was it, no cardboard ...nothing and it destroyed the everything. What is worse is the person denied everything! I am amazed at how ignorant some people are.

Re: Prefered shipping packaging for Vinyl

I use the 14x14x14 box from Walmart.

cut at 2inches (top and bottom)

put top inside bottom.

End result is a double box 14x14x2 that you can run a truck over and all will be good.

use the cut peices as padding.

cost 58 cents.

Nerver get complaint on package.

Remember that the mail people are going to throw and trample your package. Make it so that it can withstand the rough treatment that you know is coming

Over a long enough time line the ready made mailers will fail and your customers will recieve damaged vinyl.

Peace

I had to comment as I buy and sell a lot of lps on ebay.I have received lps with a piece of newspaper around them and nothing else.i have received lps taped to cardboard, then damaged trying to remove them.etc.,etc. you sometimes wonder about the sanity of the sender!!!If you dont have professional lp mailers get them, and put 2 extra cardboards on each side!!! media mail  rates for 1 lb to 2 lbs varies just a few cents, you can add extra packing at no extra cost usually!!!!if you only have a couple lps to sell and dont want to spend 20 plus dollars for pro packaging, then please get 13x13 cardboard flat pieces and put at least 2 on each side and tape the cardboard, not the lps!!you can even add more pieces ,as mentioned before the usps media rate stays about the same for 1 to 2 lbs,it dosent go up with every ounce like first class mail.i also put every lp in plastic, you never know when it will rain and water damage the lp.
