I wonder what genius came up with this fee?
Does anyone smell 'class action lawsuite'. Applying charges for no services or goods.
Oh wait..that spot where you put your shipping charges...ya..that's worth the 14% ROFLMAO
PS: Sorry for my earlier statement if it seems out of place. I thought I was responding to an earlier post where someone was defending eBay for the 14% additional shipping charges.

Good example of exactly how the new costs are effecting sellers. It's ridiculous how much money eBay/Paypal is receiving off our sales. Yes they market the site and auctions well but what happens when nobody wants to sell on the site? Hmm think about that one eBay execs My eBay Store:

Small seller, big seller, whatever seller. Fees are the same. No profit= DON'T DO IT. How simple is that.
The same whining, dire predictions, hair pulling tantrums have greeted every change eBay has made in the last ten years (at least) be they a change in the appearance of a page, a change in a fee, and so on ad nauseum.
Adjust. It is an essential part of business. The number of people that seem to think eBay does not have high powered attorneys that advise them or that eBay owes dinguswhozzit from anywhere, WORLD a profit on their item no matter what is astounding.

Actualy there have been several "class action suites" regarding this and they all lost except for the few still pending.

I guess all the 'class action suites' are losing because they could argue that the line where you input your shipping charges, and the shipping calculator is a service they provide. Which is BS really..lol...it's almost "money for nothing"
Like many have mentioned, and I tend to agree, is that Ebay is doing this to get rid of the people who cheat/steal from Ebay by putting the cost of the item in shipping charges to avoid paying royalties to Ebay.
You'ld think Ebay would just investigate the few who do this and fine them or even ban them. Also, I don't think it would take quantum physics to come up with a program to detect this sort of thing.
Too bad all the honest sellers have to suffer. Takes the fun right out of it

I don't have a problem adjusting. And I think Ebay offers a great platform for selling.
But, It's the charging for (nearly) nothing that's insulting.
Yes, the charge is not much for a small item, but it becomes substantial in larger shipments. And it counts...everybody counts.
If someones paycheck was cut by 1% because of dishonest people, you'd bet your bottom dollar they'd get upset. This is no different because many sellers supplement their income or even live off there sales.

I'm 100% not agree with eBay, here is why?
Why not charge a fee for the gasoline used on my daily rides to the Post Office ? Or a fee for the packing materials and tape and such I do not charge for ? Or how about a fee for all the time I spend for my efforts ? . . . Where is my profit for my work ? Oh, I forgot, it is in the pockets of Mr. Boardroom GreedyBay !!! Shame on you .
We should be unified, the rest of you that are not agree with the above still inside the box and maybe short of fresh air, get outside and look at things from another perspective, at the end the buyers are paying the same, we just add handling fees on top of the shipping cost and of course we charge for the gas we spend, also for our time, and for the shipping materials, how about the storage of the products, those of you that are not agree with the above is because you are doing business from the basement of your house, don't pay business licenses and so on..., but me for example, I have to pay all the government fees associated with the business, pay warehousing cost, I tell you more I just pay customs charges about $6,000 + 1,765 Customs inspection fees + $2400 shipping cost to bring a 20' container with 4000 pairs of shoes from China to USA, and at the end I only get $7.50 after each sale from eBay, less money than the money I receive when I sell 500 pairs of shoes at $8.00 each to a local retailer, between shipping cost, eBay cost + PayPal I end up spending $8.50 just right there. The other day I got a report from one of my employees that put a red light on all our eBay transactions, you should pay attention to all the fees and cost associated with eBay transactions and this include everything from day 1 to final sale, even the gas you spend if any, just in case you are not driving a water car.

I started looking at Amazon a year ago and i buy most of my stuff there . It started out as a personal vendetta against Ebay and Paypal for there shabby treatment of me as a seller . But now it really is better to shop on Amazon : the shipping is faster ,,they are far easier than Ebay to make returns and most of the time the prices are better . I still sell on Ebay and i know i may be shooting myself in the proverbial foot , but i really passionately hate Ebay and what they stand for . So now i am saving money , getting better service and screwing Ebay out of few thousand dollars in FVF fees every year. if everybody started to do this maybe ebay would start treating sellers a little better.

"The main reason for this is the people who try to avoid eBay fees by starting their item low and making up for that by charging monster shipping fees. THEY'RE the ones you should be mad at"
This is part of the reason I stopped buying much on ebay a few years ago - seems like everyone was trying to get rich off of ridiculous shipping charges. And now that I am selling some stuff, I found that these greedy sellers caused ebay to roll the shipping costs into the FVF.
It may not add up to much but, on principal, it does seem greedy on ebay's part. Those "pennies" may not add up to much for the individual seller (and it theoretically can be rolled into the sale price) but I bet that little bit extra tacked on to almost every sale equates to millions of $$ for ebay!

Also I founded today ebay is overcharging for shipping.
E.x: First Class letter 3oz cost at the USPS Office $0.85 - following ebay shipping calculator- $1.64.
Problem is the customers using ebay calculator will pay you only $0.85. If yuy print shipping label through ebay website there is no option to pay that price- is almost doubled.

This is so wrong and just ridiculous. Ebay just doesn't care about their sellers. I tried to keep my shipping low, cheated myself 30 dollars in shipping fees. And to add salt to the wound. I pay ebay way to much fee on shipping fees through paypal.
I really hate to raise prices not fair to buyers.....

First off, this thread is a year old. Some of the advice in it may not still be current so bumping it does no good. Start your own.
But since we're here... You cheated yourself you say, and who's fault is that ultimately?
The fees are there, you can find out what they'll be before you list. If you keep prices low to please buyers but lose money, again, your fault. If buyers won't buy what you have at a higher price, then it's not a good business idea to sell it here on eBay.

Shame on me for not checking on all the new fees eBay has been charging me. I don't sell that much on eBay but after I realized that eBay charges a fee on the amount I charge for shipping I am completely done with selling on eBay. I always accurately input the size and weight of the package and charge the "calculated" price or flat rate based on USPS guidelines. My last item I sold for $100. After all the eBay and Paypal fees, I made just $84.41. I will save myself the 15% and use Craigslist or just wait for my next garage sale. eBay you've lost another seller!

I have been with ebay for many many years and never thought they would ever do this. Yeah, it may be small amount, but it still isn't right!! Good Luck!!

Good grief. Did you think the site remained static for that amount of time?
YOU are responsible for knowing what you are doing. If it doesn't work for YOU, don't do it. How hard is it to spend some time reading so there are no surprises for the consciously ME ignorant?
zero sympathy for jump in and then gripe. This site is not for the "but I want to do it my way" seller or buyer. This site has a terms of use agreement.
Not to mention jump into a thread that is over a year old and not even read the preceding three or four posts. Get a grip people. Even garage sales have laws and rules.

Its times like this that I wish Yahoo Auctions was still around. I had quite a bit of feedback on there and they were not greedy piles like Ebay has become. Ebay needs some real competition so we can all jump ship.

I was going through my eBay invoices and I noticed that in April, eBay started charging Final Value Fees on SHIPPING. Since when has this gone into effect? I didn't recall receiving any notice that this was going to happen.
I sold something recently for $365 and I got an invoice of $87 from eBay. That's a lotta loot! And that doesn't include what PayPal took!
We live in an age where the corporate monopolies know they have the little guy over a barrel--and they are starting to squeeze us. I have just a couple more things to sell, and then I think I too will be done with eBay.

Oh, why unbelievable? Because:
1. There was plenty of notice in announcements. Seller emails, etc. etc. etc.
2. This started OVER A YEAR AGO, as in April of 2011.
