Of course, you can bid as high as you want on whatever you want, but not for the purpose of pumping up the price just to do somebody a favor! Regardless of your intentions, eBay may very well see that as "shill bidding". I am not suggesting that is your intention, or that you even know what that is, so here is a definition from eBay:
Shill bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or desirability. It’s also bidding by the people the seller knows—including family members, roommates, or employee—who could have certain information about the item that other members aren’t aware of.
