Dinner: a link of leftover Bratwurst, a bowl of leftover Chicken Tortilla Soup, garlic toast...and another pot of coffee.

Lisa, in my family we always have a pot of coffee brewing. For as long as I can remember...

WE TRY WATCHING OUR WEIGHT - WHAT DID YOU EAT?

Jan 22, 2009 6:13 PM
Hi, everyone ... I've been eating a lot of chicken for the past 2 weeks and for some reason, cow just kept calling. Mooooo, come to me! :|

Went to bed last night at 1:30 a.m. woke up at 3:30 a.m., couldn't go back to sleep so sat up for a while. Got hungry, ate 13 Triscuits ad 2 glasses of milk.

By 6 p.m. this evening, I could have RUN down the cow. So, took myself out to Chubbys and had a good 'old southern style chicken fried steak, mashed taters, green beans, and cream style gravy, of course. That is my breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Actually, I really wanted just a good breakfast, for dinner. Having been a scratch cook for 38 years, breakfast tastes better if someone else does the cooking and the cleanup. Go figgure. HMMMM.

I'm going back on my self-made diet, works for me.
Slim Fast and 1 granola bar for breakfast. Sometimes coffee, mostly not. If I have 1 cup I'll have 3 16 oz. variety. Lunch is a sandwich usually on sour dough, good grade of deli turkey or ham, alphalfa sprouts. Then I count out what is a single serving size of chips. (That's the hard part.) Add a cup of soup (not cream style) if you're really starving.

Dinner, go really light, like a Healthy Choice, etc. keeping the calories low. It does work. Oh, no sweet stuff like cookies, cake, ice cream, etc. There are some low cal ice creams that are pretty good. Have to read the labels. Popcorn is tricky, check out what a single portion really is. Treat yourself once in a while.

Tonight, I was BAD, BAD, BAD :O. Wow, all those carbs. Trick is to push away the plate after you have eaten 1/2 of what they bring. Have the rest the next day. ELBOW POWER.

When my hubby became diabetic, it changed the way I cook. Always looking for flavorful ways, menus to avoid the carbs and calories. I have some really good diabetic dinners. Don't forget the veggies.

Feel free to e-mail me. I cook Tex-mex (no Campbell soups in my stuff), and old-style south (because my husband taught me).

Tomorrow is another day - I'm going to start right! Try it, see if it doesn't work for you. Have a little bit of a good thing, instead of a lot of tasteless, expensive diet garbage. Yecch. AND, unless you enjoy self-punishment, don't weigh yourself every day. :)

So far I have had, coffee (multiple cups), 3 cups of hot tea, oatmeal (the old fashioned type with added cinnamon. Not pre-sweetened).

Meshop: I can not cook for one. I don't mind leftovers but the same meal 2 times a day for a week gets old.

I sometimes do a Sonny's bbq dinner (the meat and beans) last me at least 2 good meals. I buy the fruit chunks in the fresh produce isle. If I make a fruit salad it is like $20, so I can get prepared fresh fruit for under $4. I try to do salads (lately I have been avoiding them). I don't as a rule do lettuce, I use fresh spinach. I do a lot of meat substitutes, meat as a rule does not settle well with me. I eat a lot of oatmeal and granola bars (when I am not on a low fat kick...as a rule I eat very little fat and so when I am being fat phobic, I don't buy granola bars). I tend to not use oils when I cook. I love brownies made with applesauce instead of oil, I am allergic to eggs, so they are very low fat without the eggs and oil. I use the same amount of applesauce as called for oil, then no eggs.

Lisa: I could when I was younger drink a gallon of coffee and sleep (not that I ever sleep) but as I have gotten older I have to limit my caffeine in the evening.

I drink coffee by the vats, not cup as a rule. I go thru stages though.

LOL, dlej!

I'm not much on hops...never did acquire the taste for beer...but I do like my wine. And once in a while...a nice aged single malt scotch. ;)

I had dinner tonight of sliced apple, provolone cheese and wheat crackers.

So far it has been: a toasted bagel with humus, Subway wrap, ham with swiss, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, red onions, pickles, banana peppers, cukes, spicy mustard.

I have read some interesting articles this week about the "Halo of Health" that people perceive at some restaurants. They think all food is healthy at Subway or a salad bar. It is what you put on the food that counts. Many people do the Jared diet, 2 subs a day but they load them with meats, cheeses, veggies, mayo, and bacon plus the dressings. A tuna sub or a bacon ranch chicken sub with the dressing has more fat than a Big Mac. Plus they usually get a 32 oz regular soda and the big bag of chips. Baked chips are not good for you. Not as damaging as regular chips but sometimes people eat 2x as many to be satified.

On a positive note: my tight jeans are loose. I have been buying jeans in the mens dept so the hips are always snug. Ready to move down a size or two...Finally!
