No Scan Information

Nov 3, 2009 9:03 AM
The US Postal Service driver picked up my international package to Europe from my address on 10/29 at 3:00PM. As of today there are no scan information for the package. All it says is the below information. Its been like this for the past 5 days. Shouldn't there be some new scan information by now? Should I be worried? What should I do to investigate what happened to my package? Do you think the driver stole the package and brought it to his own house instead of delivering it to the post office? I did not provide a Scan Form (PS Form 5630) for the driver to scan at the time of the pick up.

"The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on October 28, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later."

No, no reason to worry. That is their usual less-than-helpful message on many classes of international mail (First Class, Priority Flat Rate Envelope, Priority Small Flat Rate Box). USPS usually does not scan those items anywhere along the line, but they typically get to their international destination just fine.

Shouldn't there be some new scan information by now?

For Priority Mail (not the envelope or the small FRB) or Express Mail, the first scan should be at the dispatch point, usually San Francisco or New York, about 4 to 7 days from mailing. Other classes of mail - no scans.

Should I be worried?

No. If the package fails to arrive at its destination within 30 days, then file an insurance claim if theclass of mail allows it.

How did you ship the package?

If you shipped it by First Class International or Priority International SFRB, FRE, there will be no scan as there is no tracking on any of these services.

I shipped a package to Canada and it had scan information shown below. How come there are no scan information after 5 days after USPS picked it up at my address? I'm getting the feeling that USPS stole it. The package size is 27X12X8 and weighed 18 lbs. There is now way on earth it was lost. Should I call my local post office to complain and find the name of the driver that picked it up from my address?

The information from the USPS website has been like this since the USPS driver picked up my package from my address on 10/29. How can I trace where my package is at? Can I call customs, USPS, or the local post office to search for it? I just want to know what's going with my package and make sure it it safe and not stolen.

Good luck on that! I just had PayPal refund an auction sent to a United Kingdom buyer, because the USPS website showed that it had tried twice (unsuccessfully) to deliver the package.

Here's what I found out. When it goes through foreign customs, it's assigned a new package ID number. Mine went through Parcel Force Worldwide (parcelforce.com) and it was given a different number than the USPS number provided by PayPal through PayPal's shipping.

My int'l buyer didn't want to pay the customs charge--so no one knows where the goods are now. All I know is where the money isn't--it's not in my PayPal account.

After 11 years of successful ebaying--and on PayPal as long as it's been around--I'm throwing in the towel with regard to international bidders. I'm realizing what a scam PayPal is--the seller has no rights--even though PayPal was used to buy the postage through PayPal shipping--and even though it clearly states that the problem was the buyer not paying the customs charge--PayPal took my money out of my account (I don't have the goods, and I had to pay for shipping to the UK--$31.35).

Honestly, it's the first time I've ever had trouble with international shipping--but if you check the PayPal and ebay forums, I guess it happens a lot.

Yours will probably be delivered without a hitch--I wouldn't worry about it, until it turns into an issue. Even then, it's not really worth worrying about. You just have to decide what risks to take on ebay--I've decided that shipping internationally is too risky for me, personally.

I don't sell enough on ebay to cover a loss like that. Sad part is that the last time I decided to sell to US bidders only, I got a lot of emails from international bidders begging me to sell to them. Live and learn!

Good luck!! Give it a week--It'll probably be just fine!

trueboy, I think there's a good chance you'll get your package back since they refused to pay the customs charge. I've gotten back 3 or 4 like that (including 2 from UK).

I should mention, however, that they did take a LONG time to come back. Crossing fingers for you.

I'd be thrilled to get the package back--at least I wouldn't be completely screwed--but I'm not exactly crossing my fingers either.

Ebay's just not the same as it once was--LOL--I'm getting nostalgic. Thanks for your wishful and hopeful thinking...I appreciate it.

Out of curiosity, what is "LONG"? Are we talking months?

Seems they were 1 to 3 months. Sigh. I think one of my UK ones was 4 months, though.

Yeah, I looked up that UK one. Mailed February 2 using FCMI, ultimately got back to me on June 7 after customs wasn't paid. Four months. Hopefully won't be that long for you, though.

YIPES! Well, it was a Gymboree lot of little girl's fall clothing-- so maybe I'll get it back in time to sell it NEXT FALL.

Like I said, I'm not getting my hopes up. =\

Thanks again, Lou Ann!

It's possible, but which driver/employee? Your package has probably been handled by a hundred or so by now, so which one are you accusing? Which one should sue you for defamation of character?

Perhaps you should scan this and other seller boards and read the thousand or so other threads on this topic. There is NO guarantee your package will ever be scanned even if it is delivered.
