What's the correct phone number format to enter in ebay?!
Jan 21, 2008 12:25 AM
Hi
There's some fault in ebay. I can't change that when changing address, therefore I can't change address!!!
I move from one country to another from time to time
Was in UK, set now different country but the bloody ebay won't accept the phone number regardless of what I enter. Even when left blank it remembers the old one saying it's wrong! Ebay claims it's either invalid or too long! What should be in the first field what in the second? For example if I have an UK mobile with number 07755555555 ? Also other combination's of second country's number do not work. What a crap!!

Any help appreciated :)
Thanks!!

Hello,

I'm absolutely new to E-bay and I have very similar problem.

I'm from Czech Republic and when I try to add czech adress, my cell phone number works properly. So this is fine.

But when I try to add my US adress, I can't add it because the system doesn't allow me to use my czech cell phone number (I don't have US number; the US adress is of a company that is shipping things to Czech Republic). I've tried to write many combinations of how I thought the system might "want" the number to be like - but with no success.

My phone number looks like " +420 XXX YYY ZZZ " where XXX is an operator prefix and +420 is the Czech Republic prefix I usually use.

Help will be very appreciated :)

you cant add an adress that isn't your's in ebay.

you can add the shipping adress in pay pal.

by the way , using a reshiper you lose the buyer protection on ebay / pay pal. item is considered delivered when accepted at reshipper. you then have little or no recourse for lost or damage when reshipped

I have succesfully bought from ebay using a forwarder adress in the past, your argument is invalid.

But today the system asked me (for the first time) to enter my phone number and it won't accept any combination of either my local number nor my forwarder's number.

This is ridiculous!

seems ebay caught on to your invalid adress. you can't register an adress that isn't yours.

buyers trying to get around seller blocks is the reason ebay doesn't allow it. many won't ship outside the US

Uganda Phone number is +256774123123

What would be the correct format?

This is increasingly looking rocket science

There is a phone number for ebay support, cut and paste link from below, to address bar on new tab and click on phone contact on right. it will give phone number and a pin good for 15 minutes.

I just used areacodenumber (no country code) & no brackets or spaces etc & it worked here.  Tried all the other suggestions & none of them worked.

I have a huge problem.

I bought an item from ebay and I need to ship it to a contact in France. Ebay is asking me to put a valid phone number and I am doing so. It is just not accepting the format I am putting. I have tried many, and sent ebay like 10 emails asking for this in vain.

Anyone can assist? I have tried all formats known to mankind...

AA.BB.CC.DD.EE

AA BB CC DD EE

(ABC) DEF GHIJ

(ABC) DEF - GHIJ

etc....

Wow, this problem has been going on since 2008, how unbelievably incompetent and inefficent and pathetic can ebay be??!!!

You can't even email them for help, they only want you to ring them!  I am not wasting money making overseas phone calls on this.

My problem is my registered address is in NZ, but I want to sent the item to a friend in the US.  The phone number is  (for example) 001 781 555 5555.  I've tried everything, even just entering 55555555555555555555555555555555

nothing works!!!!!!!!!!

This is just amazing. Someone needs to take a lesson in designing usable web forms. Wouldn't have imagined that guys at Ebay doesn't even know the basics.

I just couldn't make a purchase because I was unable to input my Finnish phone number. Taking my business elsewhere.

What kind of an error message is "The phone number field is too short" anyway? And it occurs eventhough I you fill up the field with numbers. Obvisouly a very bad bug, but it seems that it has existed for so long it is unforgivable that is not been fixed.

thing is , too many trying to use ebay.US to register instead of the ebay in their country if availible, or at least 1 country in same area.

ebay.US programed to accept US type phone #'s in most cases

The form will redirect to the native ebay site when you set the country, then click back button. If the form still displays the US-phone format (three boxes), set country to Virgin Islands (US) and then again to your real country. After hitting back button again (if the form redirects) the field for phone numjber will be a single box.

I've just successfully put my mobile number in... just put your first three digits of your number in the area code box (077) and the remainer of your number in the next box. this also works for land line (forget about country code just put your uk number in, which is your region code and home number and as I've said just use the first three digits in the area code box .. 0**) ;)

I found a solution that's simple: choose the option to change your address and simply fill out the same address info you already had. However, when filling in your phone number here, it will actually accept it! Next you can pay using paypal
