As much as I hate doing it, I pretty much do it all of the time now, it really makes a difference. I just make sure all my selling fees are added in the S&H, I am willing to risk a loss on the cost of the item, but not going to risk paying the fees myself while they get the bargain!

We only have 1 item in our inventory that we auction without gallery. Everything else gets a gallery picture ... even the items under $1.00.

I think it really does help sales. People like to have a little bit of an idea what the item looks like before they click on the link. I know when I shop on eBay I ALWAYS look at the items with gallery first ... don't want to spend my time clicking and being disapointed. :)

antq, if you don't mond my asking, what do your charge for and handleing fee? I have been considering adding one. I want it to be enough to cover my shipping supplies and fees but I don't want it to be so high that people think I am "price gouging" or that I lose a sale over my shipping cost.

You have to be careful about "handling" fees. If eBay thinks you are charging them as "fee avoidance" you can get NARU'd for that. Handling fees should only cover the cost of shipping supplies and maybe a little gas money thrown in there.

I agree dress, that's what I want to be careful of. I just listed several things and I included a .99 fee in addition to shipping fees that they calculate themselves.

That sounds reasonable! You probably spend 1/2 of that in gas to get to the P.O.!

I usually charge 1.00, as that cover 25 cents to list35 cents for gallery pic/5.25% FVF and depending on the ending price, a little towards, tape, gas, envelopes, paypal etc. Now if it is a higher end item I may charge more, for example if it ends at 100.00 (and you can anticipate after while what goes at what prices) I pay 5.25 to ebay for that, plus the listing fees,(not to mention paypal getting a big chunk and supplies, gas etc) so I do charge 2.50 on those items.

antq.freak - Please don't post that your handling fees are to cover any part of your listing or FV fees! That is considered fee avoidance and can get you NARU'd!!!! Your handling fees can ONLY cover the cost of shipping your items (like envelopes, bubble wrap, etc). Also, your customers may balk at paying your eBay fees if they knew you were charging them for that.

Hey do you have the url dolly to that policy, I would very much like to discuss that with ebay. I was thinking this way, if your listing fees are in your selling price then you are paying a final value fee on your listing fee, do you see what I mean, and that doesnt seem right does it?

I emailed ebay to ask about his policy and will keep you update, and went to seller central board, and they all have said it is perfectly fine, unless you are really jacking up your shipping to pay for them item, then you are considered to be avoid fees. But in my case I should be fine.

What is NARU'd?

NARU'd= Not A Registered User

Just don't advertise in your auction that your handling costs are to cover your fees and you'll be fine. Simply state Shipping & Handling is X amount. A "reasonable" amount is fine by ebay, but there are about a jillion listings for 99 cents with $50 s/h and ebay does nothing about it so you'll be just fine. They have yet to define "reasonable".

SERENITY NOW, JERRY!
