Customizing your Default in the New Search: Including your Default Sort

Mar 4, 2009 2:33 PM
Hi Everyone -

I have seen a number of questions on the boards pertaining to how your search results can be customized, so I wanted to take a moment to post to it here.

If you want to change any of your default settings in the new search you begin by clicking the link to Customize View
You can find this link just above the search results and to the right of the View As dropdown:

Customize View 0309

A window will pop up in which you can customize your search results.

Formatting

Customize: Formatting 0309

Here you can elect to add or remove columns from your search display by highlighting the name of the column and using the arrows between the two areas. If you want the column to display, leave it on the right side. If you don't want to see it in your search results, highlight it and use the arrows to move it to the left.

From here you can also control your default view, gallery or list, your default time & date format as well as your preference for items per page and picture size.

Item Information
Customize: Item info 0309

Use the Item Information area to define if you want to see the item number, watch link & item location by using the checkboxes & applying your preference.

Seller Information

Customize: Seller Info 0309

When you want to define whether or not user ID, store Id or feedback displays by default in your search results, the Seller Information tab is the area to use.

Check the boxes you want to see, uncheck those you don't & then use the Apply Changes button to commit the changes to your search results.

Lastly Advanced Options

Customize: Advanced Options 0309

Use Advanced Options to set your Default Sort

Use the dropdowns to select your sort of preference for both Search and Browse.
(Please note: If you do not want to see Best Match for either Search or Browse, both dropdowns must be set.)

From here you may also elect to change your default so that items are displayed in the currency listed.

After making any changes, remember to use the Apply Changes button to commit your preferences to the Search Result Pages.

Lastly, if you opt out of the New Search Experience, your default preferences will not be kept. If and when you return to the New Search, you will need to reset them.

I hope that answers all of your questions with respect to customizing your search.

Have a great day,

MarniSue
