Define your Search Preferences, Sort & Settings

Jun 10, 2009 1:01 PM
Hi Everyone -

As you know, Classic search was retired today.

We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some ways you can customize the new search to work for you.

Customized View: you can customize your search results so you can see what is important to you. You can set your default preferences to include the watch link or item's location under the item title in the search result. You can customize to see additional item information and seller information, as well as setting your default sort for both search and browse. Just start by clicking the Customized View link at the top of your search results pictured below.

Customize View 0309

For more detailed information on customizing your search results, please look at the post here: Link

Customize your Preferences the Left Navigation

Just click the link to customize preferences at the bottom of the Preferences section on the left side of the page. A window will pop up, and you can decide what you want to display on the left side of the page in the Preferences section:

Photobucket

Now you can specify the sellers that are returned in your Search results from the left side of the page. Just click the Specify Sellers link just above search preferences, check the box to "only show items from," select include or exclude from the drop down & enter the seller or sellers you would like to see or omit from your search results.

specify seller

Should you notice any issues with search, or ways you would like to see search improved, please post here and let us know your thoughts.

Best Regards,

How about letting us know when ebay will get the search to work past page one for many of us? We would love to go explore what you are talking about, but it just DOES NOT work. I can't believe you didn't know this when the new version was being tested and we were all having to opt out.

Just wanted to ask if there is a way to change the annoying yellow/gold color to the headers on the search like there is on the "My Ebay" page.

Yes, if you're using Firefox as your web browser.

If so, there's a userstyle you can add via Stylish - instructions and a picture are here: Link

It was created by rockboss2000 at the request of a couple of users.

I'm really unhappy with this. I do not like the new format and I never have. Now we don't even have a choice. Great, Thanks ebay for continuing the dowward spiral.

I cannot get the size of the photos to change from small. I tried the little boxes at the bottom and there is no difference in the three sizes, they are all showing small photos and due to a suggestion as I posted this question, I went in to customize view and changed the size to large but the page once refreshed, still shows small photos. Also before the new search everything fits on the page, now I have to scroll sideways from the search bar to the date the auction is up and cannot see all information all the time, but my main problem is the size of the photos.

I don't like it. It doesn't work. When I Opt out that means that I don't like it. Now I can't even opt out. I don't care if you stated that it would be changing, or how long ago you stated that. I've stated that I don't like it for almost as long. I'm trying to be very clear with you Marni Sue. You peolple seem to be more interested in policing how I tell you that I don't like it vs. hearing the fact that I don't like it. Is that the case? Maybe it doesn't matter if I don't like it. Is that the case? Please respond.

Can’t you “people” at eBay learn the SIMPLE FACT that FIRST YOU SHOULD FIX THE BUGS BEFORE SHOVING IT DOWN OUR THROATS?

The new my eBay lost me and the sellers I TALK too 12% to 16% Traffic, the new eBay Motors garbage cost me 25% - 30% in SALES. Now this JOKE OF A SEARCH and not to mention the DISGUSTING load times.

What ever happened to the SPECIAL TEAM that was going to ADDRESS the load time issue. Maybe they have to wait for the page to load.

I used to search categories in sporting goods and MLB for "used" and "worn" merchandise. I would search in the description only and I'd get an average of 200-500 returns.

Now, for instance in Sporting Goods, when I search "used" in the description only, I get thousands of returns. THOUSANDS! And many of them aren't used! They're NEW!

But thanks to this new search, I've deleted 9 searches from my bookmarks. I don't have time to wade through thousands of returns.

Less time on Ebay = less money spent on Ebay.

Absolutely horrible, I collect baseball cards and using the old search with -(xxxx) I could eliminate mostly everything I wasn't interested in, now I have to wade through almost 60,000 headers what used to be a 5-8 minute sweep will now take hours ..... Thanks for nothing.....

MarniSue,

I notice that the first screenshot in your post includes "Opt out of the new search experience."

Where can I find that option on my search pages?

Thank you.

Why did you take out the ability to list only eBay Stores listings for a search? (Note: the selection for "Sellers with eBay Stores" is *NOT* the same thing; that also returns auctions from store owners).

I want to browse auctions/BIN/fixed price listings SEPARATELY from Stores listings.

I used to be able to. Now it's gone.

You couldn't break more things on the site if you tried... you must be deliberately trying to make sales go down. Why, I have NO idea...

The NEW SEARCH is an outrage on the millions of loyal eBay buyers and sellers.

I will be spending a fraction of the time and money I've spent in the past from today forward, and perhaps eBay will finally take note when it hits their pockets, and hurts their shareholders.

Bring back the old search. (Simple, isn't it?)

Hi shelleybean8

> can someone please tell me how to get the "compare" boxes back!!! I am not a fan of the new search!!

They eliminated the "compare" function from new search because, I think they said, it was an impact on the system.

The workaround is to make sure you have the Watch this Item link set up so it shows in the list of results. Then go through your results, clicking the Watch this Item link. When you're finished, go into My eBay, click on Watch, then use the compare function in there.
