eBay's trojan sites

Nov 3, 2009 1:16 AM
I HATE THIS!

I am searching on Yahoo or Google for something like stereo speakers, maybe using a specific model. I get results that look interesting. I go to a site that seems to have something, only to realize that the site is a trojan setup by eBay designed to lure you here. Everything on this trojan site links to an eBay auction.

And these trojan sites are all over the place and you can't tell that they are really eBay since they are cleverly made up to look like indepedant interesting websites.

How de we avoid this?

I dont know but i have been complaining forever that since this went to the new and unimproved site, i feel that they are putting tracking cookies all over our computers so maybe this is why, so when you browse independent of ebay it just lures you back in, i feel whatever they have done to our computers we cant un do.

And here's another situation along the same lines. I ran an "item wanted" ad on Craigslist. A woman responds to the ad saying "Oh hey, take a look, this may be just what you are looking for..." and the link is to - you guessed it - eBay! It is a search that generates about 7000 results. Oh boy!

So eBay must employ folks to go to CL, pose as regular users, and suggest the people come here.

example: Link

When you look at that link, you don't automatically realize that it is really eBay. It looks like eBay is just an advertiser at first.

I always search on google with a -EBAY at the end of my search.

It gets rid of most but It doesn't get rid of all of them.

Also use your cookie manager to block tracking cookies. It's time consuming but it does speed up ebay loads a little.
