Time left for Fixed Price items

Sep 12, 2008 7:58 PM
Hi Everyone -

I wanted to take a quick moment to let you know about the latest enhancement to the New Search Experience. As of this week, the time will no longer be displayed for Fixed Price Items. (Auction items where BIN is an option will continue to display the time.) This will highlight and distinguish Fixed Priced items from Auction in the search results. Additionally, starting next week, eBay is adding new duration options for Fixed Price listings, including a 30-day and a Good Til Cancelled (GTC) option. Since a GTC listing may show that it has 2 minutes left, but will re-set to 30 days once that 2 minutes expires, it would be potentially misleading to display the “time ending” information.

In the New Search Experience, time will also be far less significant factor for Fixed Price Items in the Best Match sort. As you may already know, one of the ways we are highlighting Fixed Price items, as announced on August 20th, is to increase exposure in the Best Match Sort for multi-quantity Fixed Price Items that have recent sales. Fixed Price items will no longer gain increased exposure for time ending as Auctions do.

You can read more about the changes for Best Match with respect to Fixed Price Items in our August 20th announcement FAQs here:

Thanks & have a great day,
Blair, eBay Finding Team

IS this for currently running fixed price listings? I cerainly hope not, I have a few fixed price listings running and I listed them with the understanding that the time would be shown. I am so tired of ebay randomly springing things on their buyers and sellers.

I, for one, think this is a great idea. It seems even my store items don't sell until the last day. I pick up watchers along the way but they don't buy until the end.

Now, maybe they will just buy it when they see it.

Or maybe they'll never buy it because it will never end with the new 30 day or longer. And maybe no one will watch them anymore because it won't even show an ending time in the search. Who Knows?

erm.....so you think TWO dashes where the time ending would be, is more of a Highlight than the BIG B.I.N. Logo...do you have a department that thinks this rubbish up or does it just come naturally ? Hidden Agenda springs to mind and I can't wait to see what it is, that is, if, buy.com have decided yet. You're obviously pandering to the mega sellers who just suck buyers away from eBay after the initial sale.

Time left for Fixed Price items

I knew if I looked long enough, I'd find out why something I just listed is not showing an end time in the search.

AND I HATE IT!! I came here to find out what was "wrong." Why do I hate it? Because my item is now at the end of the search when put on "ending soonest." If it has no end time, it will NEVER move up in the list. HELLO! And it does have an ending time -- it shows on the listing page as having an ending time. Regardless of whether it re-news or not, it STILL is at the very end in the "endest soonest" search.

Some people will never make it past the first page of the search if they find something they like. And mine will never get there. It should move up the list like everything else.

Oh, but there's Best Match, you say? Well, goody-goody. Best Match is some arbitrary garbage made up by idiots, which is completely irrelevant to whether a seller is actually any good or not. I'm a good seller, but I don't "officially" have the criteria, and other listings get ahead of mine.

I did not list this thing under an agreement that it wouldn't be in the proper order under "ending soonest."

Blair, are you listening? I'm p*ssed and I'm p*ssed good. I'm just trying to get a few things out the door before things get any worse. And you snuck a new rule in behind my back. I want my d*mn fees back, because my listing is not listing properly in the "ending soonest" option.

NOW HEAR THIS: I PAY THE SAME LISTING FEES EVERYONE ELSE DOES AND I WANT MY LISTING LISTED PROPERLY IN THE SEARCH.

I don't deserve to be on the last d*mn page just because I did a fixed price. I even did the free shipping, just for the heck of it. Not to please anyone here, but just cause I felt like it. And I get screwed anyway.

I get screwed no matter what I do.

Blair, are you here? Are you coming back to this announcement or are you afraid to find out anyone's opinion??

I'd like to have this issue addressed and I want it addressed now! I'm already good and ticked at this place, and this announcement isn't the worse thing eBay's done, but it's the one that just sent me over the deep end.

I will repeat: I PAID THE SAME LISTING FEES AS EVERYONE ELSE DID AND I WANT THE SAME TREATMENT AS EVERYONE ELSE. That includes in ALL search orders -- including that blasted Best Match.

And since I pay the same listing fees as everyone else and Best Match is not FACT, but arbitrary non-fair garbage that eBay makes up, I think it would be a perfectly fine thing to SUE eBay over.

Somebody find me a lawyer. And yes, I'm dead freakin' serious!!!

Hi erimess,

>>> starting next week,

You're quoting from a message posted Friday, September 12. Today is Saturday, September 13. It isn't next week yet. :)

The changes you quoted will be rolled out on September 16, per the message on the Announcement Board: Link

Glenda-

These changes are already here in the new search. Fixed price listings only show -- where end time normally is.

Hi bumblebee-garden

Yes, I realize that change - where fixed price listings don't show the date and time - have already been implemented. And all the fixed price listings are now showing up after auction listings, which is just wrong in a sort by ending soonest, and I don't think that was announced at all.

The changes that erimess, however, was asking about - a 30-day duration and a Good Til Cancelled (GTC) option - have not been implemented yet (I just checked the Sell Your Item form and it's still showing 3-10 days for fixed price).

If I hadn't been watching the boards, I would have never realized that any fixed price listings will NOT HAVE AN END TIME. I am totally in agreement with you.....a fixed price item DOES indeed have an end time!!!!(after all, you will be charged for a 30 day listing, which ENDS on the 30th day) I, too, would like this issue addressed.
I am not a happy camper.

SURPRISE!

I'm sure there are thousands of sellers who've scheduled things to launch who'll never stumble upon this message who'll be in for a rude awakening when they realize their items will be in permanent limbo, and given second/third class exposure.

Ebay, I don't like you very much these days.

Good lord, this search keeps getting stupider and stupider.

A major announcement needs to be launched screaming, "FIXED PRICE LISTINGS WILL NO LONGER BE DISPLAYED IN TIME ENDING SOONEST SORTS!"

This is big, and we shouldn't have to stumble around the boards to find out about it.

I don't usually list fixed price listings unless an item is on sale, but non-store owners now have even less incentive to list with fixed price.

Is this the goal? Is this the agenda?
