Why can't we disable AutoCorrect?

Why not? What's the reason? Does ebay "deliver" search results on autocorrected searches to big sellers for a price? Is it a service they provide that we don't know about?
I ask because autocorrect can clearly obstruct searching, especially for clever or for less conventional, or less conventionally spelled items. Quotes doesn't really help as the word sequence prioroty is often invoked needlessly narrowing the reslults.
Can anyone explain why there isn't an on/off toggle for AutoCorrect?

Hi mgonneau
With regard to quotes, I don't follow what you mean by: "the word sequence prioroty is often invoked needlessly narrowing the reslults" Could you explain, please? What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

I don't understand why you don't understand. I will do a search for Gruen hairspring, it is a spring for a Gruen watch. The auto correct gives me "Green Hair" products, or whatever...
IT IS VERY ANNOYING.
Please just tell us how to turn it OFF!
Thank you

Hi 66_sunbeamtiger
Turn it off by putting ONE word in quotation marks. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

It should be an option to permanently dissable the bloody "We know what you want better then you do" features like this garbage....
If they had just done a search on what we type inn and then give us an alternative option to use the "corrected" search if we want to... And not just push the "we know best" bullcrap on us... It would be more userfriendly....
But then again most US based sites like ebay think the users are mentaly retarded, diper waering children that need someone else to tell them what they want and need...
Sorry if i offend somone with this but im pissed off on stuff like this :/

Here here!
It took me ages to find out how to search for a product called Uniblack when eBay kept showing me Unit Black items. Hours of frustration and, in the end, lost sales to eBay merchants because I went out and bought the product elsewhere.
Listen to us eBay. The auto-correct feature should at least have the option of being disabled by the end user.

Agreed!
Autocorrecting interfers.
You want to give me options like
"did you mean this"
That's fine.
But don't go changing what I type in, just because what I typed in produced zero results.
I want to see zero results first.
I want to know that what I typed in did not produce results.

I also agree. It drives me nuts. I know what I'm searching for and how to spell it, please stop telling me I don't know my own mind!

Pardon my ignorance on this topic, but could you point me (as in a link) to where this quotation marks option is documented? Much appreciated.
thanks..petem

Hi petem
Click on Advanced Search. Click on "using Advanced SEarch Options. Scroll down to the section "Advanced search criteria", specifically "Using search operators (Boolean logic)". What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

Just a bump to show absolute agreement with those who feel that auto correct is not a feature but actually makes ebay WORSE. Ever since this came online I have had a crazy number of misdirected searches due to it and it is incredibly annoying.
Putting stuff in quotes etc is not at all intuitive and it feels unnecessary and increases customer dissatisfaction. You need a way to turn it off completely. Remember WE are the customers, YOU are the company providing the service. Things that make your service hard or unpleasant to use are not good for ANYONE.
Thanks (for nothing)

The reason you can't disable AutoCorrect is because it is working just the way that ebay wants it to work.
It works just right for what THEY want. It really doesn't matter an awful lot what the buyers or sellers want - it is what ebay wants and they want the PR and the data and the leverage, etc.

We should be able to disable it. I often look for rare items and the autocorrection is very annoying. Adding quotations might work for me, but there are thousands of people who are not going to find out about it and just be annoyed all the time.
It is one thing to autocorrect obviously misspelled dictionary words. However correcting product names doesn't work because there is often no correct answer.

It IS VERY ANNOYING. I'm trying to find model trains and it quickly jumps to iphones instead just before I press the Enter key. Just giving my two cents about this search function.

Add me to the chorus, autocorrect is a MAJOR PITA! What a stupid thing to not be able to disable!
And no, I don't want to have to use quotation marks, I just don't want idiotic suggestions when I try to search!

I am another ebayer who HATES the auto correct. I have never commented in these forums but this issue has driven me to it! It just drives me crazy to have to try 3 or 4 times to get the search to accept what Im typing. I tried for Christmas bird ornaments I got some kind of knives... and on and on every time.
Please make it stop. This may be the worst thing to happen on ebay in all the years I've been here. It's actually not just annoying, it's detrimental to the basic functionality of the site. As an ebay seller I worry about how it's affecting my sales.

Exactly. I hate auto correct and there should be a way to disable. Anymore I have to put in my exact search terms about three to five times. Then it will finally let me search for what I actually type in rather than changing to something totally unrelated.
It is very frustrating. Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom!"

I can't stand this auto-correct feature, either! Before I even have a chance to take a breath, just after entering 3 letters into the search window, my keyword that I wanted to originally type in morphs into something entirely different! HELP! Be kind with those who aren't. You never now, they may have just been diagnosed with sumting.
