People should now recognize that Ebay is not neccessarily the best option to purchase items. There are many many alternatives. With fees added in the prices need to be adjusted up to compensate. Years back we deciced to scale back our Ebay business which consisted of over 700 items per month sold. So doing some quick match, average ticket was $73.00. 700x73.00x12monthsx6 years=a little under $3.7 million. Ebay lost out on all of those fees as they just kept getting higher. This was way back in 2006. We closed that account, opened up a store front elsewhere and realize far far better margins even today.
We still use Ebay for some minor personal items. About it.
For some items that we just want to get rid off and worth the hassle-generally larger more expensive items-we use Craigslist. No issues there. Sold about 300 items through them. Some strange folks for sure, but again no problems.
In other words, you have options, easy options. Even you generate less traffic vs. Ebay, at least your margins will be substantially higher which in our case more than made up for the traffic. Plus we do not need to put in as much work.
Happy Happy all the way around.

I'm selling a few things because I need the money, I am not a dealer. That said I sold three items for a total of $120- this is counting what my paypal account is taking in shipping and all.
Now I get a bill from Ebay for $15.00!? This is well over the 9% they advertize. I have one item left for sale, and just ended another early because ebay put it in the wrong catagory- this will be my last selling experience here. The costs are just too high.
I know Ebay wants to make a profit, and I have NO problem with that- so do I! BUT, this is getting into gouging, you big dealers here have my deepest respect and sympathies for putting up with this practice.

RIDICULOUS! I Just sold an amp for 900 dollars, average shipping I saw was $60, which seemed low, so I charged $90 but paypal took out 30 dollars so I got 60 basically, but in reality shipping was $140.00 for a 60 pound amp w/insurance, so it was more than twice that of $60. Then on top of that ebay charging 10% ($90.00) for final value fee! so in reality, for a 900 dollar sale, i ended up with $730.00 !! anyone else think this sucks??? Ebay is greedy and their shipping calculater needs to be updated, this totally sucks! I'm gonna stop sellling here. This explains why I just don't see as many item on ebay anymore, I think people are going elsewhere.

I am in agreement with all the fees that Ebay is now charging is taking the little guy out. Ebay used to be fun and you could make a dollar or two, today we have witnessed Corporate greed taking control of what once was a great thing. They no longer are interested in the original idea only concerned with making as much money as they can with others doing the work. Craigslist here we come! In reading the discussion boards it appears I am not alone, Ebay will eventually end up like the others that got greedy and become a thing of the past. It is hardtimes now in the US but most of us just believe and stick it out, not to each other.

Hi,I'm Just A Small Ebay Seller Trying To Make A Little Extra Money And My Sells Are Doing Well,But Time I Look At The Cost Of Each Item At 18% It Doesn't Leave Much Profit On My Items.I Wish They Would Look At The Sellers And Give The Small Guys And Give Us A Break. What Ebay Needs To Do Is Have A Scale System.
$5,000.00 A Month Or Less Are On A 10% Cost Deal.
$5,000.00 To $10,000.00 Cost At 12%
$10,000.00 To $15,000.00 Cost At 15%
And So On.

I didn't know that ebay had a hand in craigslist too. I guess I'll stay away. It's a shame I was considering going to sell on there but if they have anything to do with Ebay, I will not.
Besides,I'm still hoping something will come from this facebook IPO. I've heard that after the IPO....Initial Public Offerring, I think is what the news said it's stands for.......Facebook is going to change drastically, I really hope one of the changes is that it becomes a safe retail environment where sellers can list items for free and just have buyer send them payment safely through Paypal. Think about it, I mean if people can go online and post little tidbits about what they're doing all day, everytime they eat a sandwich or go for a walk...or post pictures and pictures of their cat's or dogs doing funny things while sleep for fre,why can't we sellers list our items up for sale?

This is why there are laws against Monopolies.
The people at E bay are masters at working sellers fees.. when they raise them they go up 50% 100%.. No other business can pull this off.
Ps e bay owns a large % of Craigs list.. so keep an eye on this for fees...
Ps.. This will never change until (maybe never) there is a real competitor in the Auction business...

I'm over it too. I just sold an iPhone for $248. eBay took $42.06 for it. Then PayPal, which they own, took another giant chunk. What the heck eBay? Really? I'll use Craigslist or ioffer. I already stopped selling my handmade items on here and went to etsy for that.

And honestly, I don't mind paying fees....like Paypal fees, yes they are high, but I've experienced firsthand on more than a couple occasions, that Paypal earns their fees by keeping our info and transactions safe. I even don't mind paying insertion/listing fees, I feel like that's approriate to buy or rent a small corner of the online Ebay marketplace. But come one Final Value Fee? Final value fees on shipping? These are the fees that ruin this site for sellers and buyers alike, and it needs to stop now. After all Ebay, you make tons of money off ads and big retail and brand name cross sell promotions. To sum up, YOU MAKE MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY FROM OTHER RICH COMPANIES, STOP TRYING TO GOUGE US POOR/MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE OUT OF MONEY TOO....... I know that if Facebook can maintain as many users as it does for free, then you can as well.

Screw This!!! This month marks my one year anniversary of selling on Ebay. And after crunching the years worth of numbers, yelling, and then rercrunching the numbers and then yelling, throwing, smashing, I've learned that Ebay has made over $3000 through Final Value Fees alone with the all the items/listings I've sold the past year. That's more money than I spent on gas, shipping supplies, and even stock!!! Ebay's greed is outrageous, and ridiculous, and ludicrous to the point I firmly believe that it should be criminaly prosecutable. After more math, I've found that Ebay has made more money than I have on over 85% of my sales....WTF??!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!
I'm the one who drives to stores 20-40 times a week browsing through hundreds of items, often having to wait in long lines to check out. I'm the one who's taken and edited thousands of photos over the past year. I'm the one who's taken all the time and used my intellectual property to type up detailed item descriptions, I'm the one who packs up multiple orders and then drives to the post office twice a day to ship out for buyers in a timely fashion.....
SO WHY THE HELL ARE A BUNCH OF A NAMELESS EBAY CORPORATE FACES SITTING ON THEIR ASSES ALL DAY MAKING MORE OFF MY HARD WORK THAN I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????!?!!!!!!! This is insane, Ebay's greed has gotten out of control, and all these new seller updates and poicy changes hurt buyers and sellers alike. All they do is create policy enforced boundaries that force us to pay more money, while permitting Ebay to pay less, and I've had enough of this!!! Stop being so selfish Ebay, let us enjoy the money we work so hard for, let us know what it's like to thrive financially instead of trying to keep us poor while keeping yourselves rich.

The fees are nuts. Suddenly, about three weeks ago, it seems like they're taking double of what they used to? What gives? I also resent (like hell) that e-bay gets paid before I get paid. If someone doesn't pay me, they still take their cut and the buyer has to agree (WTF??!!!!!) to cancel the transaction so you can get money that rightly belongs to you. Half of the dimwits out there who don't bother to pay are not going to agree to cancel the transaction. Why does ebay make it hard for someone to sell? I'm going to Etsy. It takes longer, but the fees are small and there are a better class of buyers.

I just sold an item for 750 dollars. My fees between paypal and ebay were 75 dollars.
Seems a little bit high to me. If there was an alternative, I think I would be switching about now.

The fees are way higher than I believed I had agreed too When I called Ebay in an attempt to discuss the fees I was basically told there is no process to dispute what is invoiced. The monopolization of the payment process via paypal is further evidence of this companies not competitive approach, charging fees on shipping is simply the latest cash grab. I don't think I will be selling much as it just doesn't make sense or dollars Great place to buy as the seller is holding the brunt of the costs. Until a true competitor arrives this is what there is....

I have been using eBAY on and off here in the Uk mainly to buy computers parts and ink cartriges etc I occasionally sell PC parts back and just today I sold a CPU for £79+ delivery charge. When I checked my fees eBay charged me £7.76 for the final sale for a CPU for gods sake from now on I'll be listing on Amazon.co.uk as there a little better for fees.
I have 2 more parts a PSU and 500gb Hard Drive no way will I sell them on here because I know the fees will be like £5. Bare in mind that £7.76 didn't include the fee from Paypal either I dont think so it was £9 eBay get a complete rip off.

I have been using Ebay sporadically for about 8 years. I tend to go in spurts and sell about 5 items in the spring and fall as we do some deep clean out of unused items. Most of what I have sold throughout the years is stuff under $50. During the last couple months I have sold an item for $300, and a few items under $100. The items under $100 are not worth it. One item I sold was sold for $38 (combined item price and shipping). After the ebay, paypal fees and shipping I only made $15 on it. Another sold for $101 and I only made $67... THAT"S INSANE.
In the last couple years I have decided to onloy charge half of the actual shipping costs to the winner since shipping has gotten so high as well. If we were to pass down the total costs of the selling fees, paypal fees and shipping charges to the winner, we can never keep up with the chinese sellers that are becoming more and more present on ebay.
I have a friend who sells a ton on ebay and he has indicated he has stopped using ebay. Its not worth it anymore to him either. He indicated its craigslist or his own website. I too am going to stop selling items that are under $100 on ebay.

Yea, i just sold $180 in the past 3 days, look at my fees and they are $28 bucks, now after i pay to ship the items and paypal gets its percent, that will pretty much leave me with a lil pocket change. The fees just seem to keep going up and up, its crazy.
And to the person that says you should say "thank you" are you serious??? Im pretty sure you see that ebay logo every morning you pull into the Ebay employee only parking right???? lol.

I encourage you to do the same @ http://www.google.com/contact/.

Hi, I'm only a few months into EBay. I was making a small profit until this month, when my fees jumped to $$137.00!! (previously they were about $38 a month). I believe this is due to my listing more than 50 items. UGH. I didn't understand there are 2 fees. Insertion and final sale. I am a very intelligent woman, but I find it hard to get straight answers from this website. I am also frustrated with the lack of communication EBAY offers (call center in India with jerks who don't care) and a lack of email communication. Thinking a yard sale would be easier.
Anybody else with similar experience?

I had to increses the cost of shipping to the customer because ebay is collecting ten percent on what I charge for shipping I only charged the customer the exact amount it cost to ship. Thanks to all the seller who were making money on shipping.

Anything to knock out the little guy and smaller sellers like myself who had hopes of making a business out of this someday. Looks like it's not going to happen. They're going to raise final value fee to $250! How could you possibly collect a profit after that + paypal fee + shipping & insurance?
