The TS cons are a perfect example of why the Republicans are so against health care reform. If cheap psychiatric care were available, there would be no conservatives left.:^O:^O

None here on T.S. You're buying into your sides notion that Obama and America are one and the same. You're wrong.

My side is with America, period.I am an independent who voted for Obama last November because he offered a way out of the disastrous result of years of Bush/Cheney extremism.

There is no free lunch and as much as conservative extremists can't see it America's investment in itself is going to cost money to get things going. And yes it is most unfortunate that this comes at a time when the country must get its financial house in order - no one understands this equation more than the President. He has given every reason for the populace to expect that when the economy is sufficiently jumpstarted, the government will step out of the way where possible and concentrate on Clintonesque handling of the deficit.

I know you like to believe that, but I don't know anyone who thinks Obama and America are one and the same.

I don't believe that most Americans take what's left of the republican party seriously. Their claims that they want to fix the problems rings hollow after 30 years of dilatory policies designed to do nothing but line the pockets of corporate interests.

The idea that the right wing has "another way" to fix healthcare, or Iraq, or Afghanistan, or balance the budget doesn't hold a lot of water after the last 8 years. If you have the secret one would think you would have shared it by now --- if you haven't, one can't be faulted for believing you really don't have any solutions at all or, for that matter, you're serious about wanting to fix the problems.

I'm pleased Obama got elected if for no other reason than that I got to be present on TS when the ship changed hands to a new captain.

Suffice to say it's been an enlightening experience on the nature of American politics.

My observation is that about 80% of people are quite happy to see things going badly so long as the 'other side' is in to take the blame. Not all 80% at once, of course. Half when one guy is in, half when the other.

10% are complete whackjobs.

And the final 10% are the actual thinking folks.

Bushco killed conservatism, (albiet slowly with the soon to be corpse still swinging in the wind and flailing about), because the reality is that Bushco IS conservatism in charge.

It is the extreme elements on the right that speak of an Obama cult, that is those who would mistake Obama for America, as you say. I don't see it.

Americans are looking to the President to do the job.

As hard as that job may be at this point in time since the last President didn't do his.

If he fails, they will look elsewhere. And what is the definition of failure? The American people chose to define it on terms that extemists on the right can't dictate.

Get used to it. America woke up last November after a long national nightmare. As a whole, the country is no longer delusional about conservative extremism which had found its' way to power in the last 30 years.

There will be no more Dan Quayle or George W. Bush
clones. If there are they won't get elected to national office - Sarah Palin, anyone?

The doom and gloom conservatives have their own party to deal with. They risk splitting it with intolerance--e.g. Scozzafava. Maybe that's what needs to happen. The party needs to split.

"If we don't get some adult supervision,” says former Virginia Rep. Tom Davis (R), quoted in the Associated Press, “basically the party could explode and split itself up." Republicans won’t be able to retake the majority with a far right agenda that excludes moderates.

Why is there doom and gloom in California then? They seem to lead the nation in doomsters, even though it has been a leader in Green, big government and the capital of libertine depravity. Shouldn't they have the biggest smiles in the country?

Simple. When in the process of committing suicide-through-liberalism, there is drawn out pain before the end.

Whoever claimed that California wasn't susceptable to Bushco influences?

But the correlation seems to be: make more "investments" and the state in question suffers more doom. Shouldn't an ultra liberal state done better, not worse?

California??? Let's focus nationally, which seems to be the focus of this thread. Any chance you see any responsiblity for Republicans? Any at all?

I don't expect much of an answer. Others are concerned about the splitting of the Republican party. Do you care to comment on that? Is intolerance splitting your party?
