How did that gay marriage election turn out? Ha :^O ha :^O ha :^O ha :^O

Best news of the night. Sensibility reigned, even in a blue state.

PORTLAND, Maine — Voters on Tuesday repealed the state’s same sex marriage law after an emotionally charged campaign that drew large numbers to the polls and focused national attention on Maine. With 87 percent of precincts reporting, the campaign to overturn Maine’s same-sex marriage law won with 53 percent of the vote vs. 47 percent opposed to Question 1, according to unofficial results compiled by the Bangor Daily News.

“Question 1 has passed,” Frank Schubert, campaign manager of Stand for Marriage Maine, announced in Portland. “It has all come together tonight and the institution of marriage has been preserved.”

About 40 people who worked on the Yes on 1 campaign cheered as they heard the announcement by computer hookup at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.

“We went up against tremendous odds,” Marc Mutty, public affairs director for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland who has been on loan to the campaign, said from Portland. “We all know we were the little guy going up against the big guy, but we prevailed. We prevailed because the people of Maine — the silent majority — the folks back home spoke with their votes.

In a defiant speech to several hundred lingering supporters, No on 1 campaign manager Jesse Connolly pledged that his side “will not quit until we know where every single one of these votes lives.” (Oooooooooh, scary :^O )

Personally, I don't consider it sex.

It is sex or it isn't sex. It's inside or outside the natural order. It's right. it's wrong. It's beautiful or repulsive.

Does your view of someone's sexuality entitle you to tell 2 adults they cannot get married?

If yes, is there some kinds of sex play you would like to outlaw for heterosexual couples? What if a married man and woman stop having sex? Should they be forced to end the marriage?

Just how narrow is the range of acceptable adult sexuality?

I think forced sterilization would do the world a whole lot of good when it comes to right wingers. How come we don't get to vote on that?

How about that. You don't have a monopoly on misspelled words.

Whamodoug, This might be one of the few issues you and I agree on. I do believe in letting people be free to do what they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. The only problem I see with you above quote is that it can be easily expanded to "Does your view of someone's sexuality entitle you to tell 3 or 4 adults they cannot get married? "

I subscribe to the conservative principle of I mind my own business and I expect you to mind yours.

I agree with that, but let's apply it across the board. Let me mind my own healthcare, how many guns I own, whether or not I want my money to fund abortions, and on and on. All of these things are MY BUSINESS. I truly do not want to police anyone's bedroom, and if they want to become a legal pair that is fine, too. I would prefer they didn't use the term marriage, but would instead coin a new term.....but that is a personal preference, and I don't expect my personal preferences to be taken very seriously by anyone but myself! I do think the good people of the state of Maine have a right to vote their personal preference. Don't you? And I don't think the threats are very productive....they certainly don't help to foster understanding.

When children are involved, as a parent, this subject becomes my business.

The voters got this one right.

If you only have nice things to say, please don't sit by me.

"Younger people overwhelmingly don't care what consenting adults do and don't favor discrimination"

That's what the Obama Networks and even the kids themselves would have you believe, but the reality is that "younger" people are some of the most ruthlessly discriminatory and judgemental you will find.

^that's true, less. mainly because they haven't lived long enough to realize that life isn't all black and white. As they mature they'll realize that between the fringes of black and white there's a gray area for do unto others/live and let live.

I suppose the pics you posted means you believe that you are better than those people.
The left is pretty judgemental when it comes to people they think are beneath them.

Neanderthal thinking dies hard.

If gays would drop the insistence of using the word "marriage", they could probably get "civil union" passed wherever they want.
Neanderthal thinking does die hard.

I think forced sterilization would do the world a whole lot of good when it comes to right wingers. How come we don't get to vote on that?

John Holdren couldn't have said it any better.
