THE GARDEN 2008 THREAD - Spring in here, finally...

Apr 5, 2008 11:52 AM
Oh I am just soooo thrilled. It's in the 50is today and I was walking past one of the flower beds and what do I see?

Where there was still snow yesterday, there now is this

Photobucket

and this

Photobucket

Not that I haven't been collecting and buying seeds for a long time now.

Photobucket

Not that I know the buds, tulips, I planted one hundred bulbs, will make it through next week. We are expecting more snow for at least another week or so.

Anyone else have theirs to show.

Come on, we need to get into the spring fever and mindset... and before you know it summer, the flowers, the birds and bees will be back and make us happy :)

As we speak, I am sowing the seeds of doubt.

Seriously I am starting some ground cherries indoors.

Not here! The flowers are in full bloom all around us.
Really beautiful, colorful, and a disaster for those suffering with allergies.

All, please post some photos. And if you don't have a base to save them to, send them to me. I'd be happy to display your treasures.

Great minds, Feathers :)

Wow, they really opened up, didn't they.

I bet that Midlynn has photos too. I remember her saying that she already has flowers growing.

Well, here's where I am with gardening: I'm going away for the whole month of May. I will garden like a crazy fool when I get back.

I got a lovely lot of seeds from Spelbound, and planted most of the tomatoes, plus a couple heirloom varieties I had already. Then I bought the ticket to Norway.

So I advertised on Freecycle my sprouted tomato seeds and somebody came and got them. The deal is that I get a couple plants of each variety when I return. She seemed really nice and I look forward to making the trade when I return.

In the meantime I hope to get another truckload of black dirt and put in a serious fence against the deer for a smallish garden.

I went to a presentation a couple weeks ago. This guy was talking about taking willow shoots, sticking them straight into the ground and weaving them into designs, and then what happens is that they root and you have this woven arbor. I'm hoping to do that too. Maybe before I leave if I have time.

Hey there under...so glad you started the 2008 garden thread!

Wildwood...the live willow fence sounds beautiful...even though I'm not sure what a willow is

I planted my seeds under...but :_| the peacocks ate all the baby shoots...they leave the established flowers and ALL THE WEEDS alone...but the succulent babies are apparently irresistible to these mean birds...this is Joey...he roosted above the seed flower patch and got them as they came up, one by one

These daisy-type plants just keep spreading and they're growing in places they were never planted in...but I love them

Gerberas and camelias

I have more fruit this year than I ever remember...the only full-grown and ripe at the moment are loquats:
