THE GARDEN 2008 THREAD - Spring in here, finally...

Apr 5, 2008 11:52 AM
Oh I am just soooo thrilled. It's in the 50is today and I was walking past one of the flower beds and what do I see?

Where there was still snow yesterday, there now is this

Photobucket

and this

Photobucket

Not that I haven't been collecting and buying seeds for a long time now.

Photobucket

Not that I know the buds, tulips, I planted one hundred bulbs, will make it through next week. We are expecting more snow for at least another week or so.

Anyone else have theirs to show.

Come on, we need to get into the spring fever and mindset... and before you know it summer, the flowers, the birds and bees will be back and make us happy :)

Under, I have stuff coming up too. Isn't it invigorating to see that? I'm going out tomorrow to clean up here and there, it's supposed to be around 60 degrees. Perfect day for spring cleaning!

This is unbelievable, the beauty of nature you all show here. :)

Eileena, so sorry about the loss of the seedlings. Did they steal the Mallows as well?? Beautiful pictures you posted.

I'll be starting seeds in windowboxes next weekend.

Annie, your garden looks like out of a fairtale, gorgeous landscaping.

Judging by last year, the Lilac will will be first to show it's beauty. I have 8 bushes that border the property. Hopefully this year too the small Lilac bush that I planted last year will show some buds.

Maybe this year we could have the thread tacked to the top, so we don't lose it again like the two previous ones? Such a shame it was, so many pictures and work everyone had done and was proud to share here.

Does anyone know how to get that done?

New snow? Interesting. It is sunny here, though the white stuff is predicted for tonight. Are you back from the cities Babes?

I use hard household soap - the sort that grandma used for the laundry way back when - for getting rid of aphids.

I use an old cheese grater to get fine flakes, then soak overnight in hot water. That mixture can be thinned down and used in a sprayer. You need to make sure the entire plant is soaked, but don't do it in hot sunshine as it dries too quickly.

Love the pictures, by the way!

Hmm, I wonder what's in that British hard household soap that kills insects.

No, it's washing soda! But using that, neat, would probably by too strong.

I have already got more ladybugs than I need.

But I don't have aphids. :)
