THIRD ANNUAL TOWN SQUARE HALLOWEEN CONTEST, Part 3----A Strange Journey Through Ebayland
Oct 24, 2003 07:45 AM
This last section is the wildest of all. It combines elements of the other two---community spirit and Thomas Paine---all rolled up in Halloween fun! Please don't start threads on other boards to fulfill the requirements of this section; we don't want to be nailed for spamming the boards or give others the impression that we are taking over their boards. Have fun visiting the other boards. You might even make some new friends. LAND OF MISC-FITS--- 1. For 2 points, go to the Miscellaneous board and find my thread. Wish the misc-fits a happy Halloween. Post a gif if you like. HAVE A SEAT ON THE PORCH--- 2. Go to the Front Porch and find my thread. For 2 points, wish the Porch-sitters a happy Halloween. Invite someone from the Porch to visit TS. Come back to this thread and tell me which one you have invited. You may NOT invite someone whom someone else has already invited. If you can get this person to post on TS, you get 5 additional points. You must tell me where on TS the poster has posted by midnight Sunday. PLAY IN THE PARK--- 3. For 2 points, go to the Park and wish someone specific a happy Halloween. Say something like "In the name of Thomas Paine, I wish you the happiest of Halloweens!" You must mention Paine in your greeting. If this person asks you about Thomas Paine, you get 3 additional points. You may NOT prompt the person to do so. If you correctly explain who Paine was, you get 5 additional points. Come back here to this thread and tell me which Park dweller you greeted. You may greet as many people as you like, but you only get credit for 1. Only one Townie will get "Paine credit" per Parker. That is, after one Townie has already explained about Paine to a certain park dweller, someone else can't explain for credit to the same one. The person the Park dweller asks MUST be the one to explain. WAKE UP THE NIGHT OWLS--- 4. For 2 points go to the Night Owl's Nest and post a greeting on darkerjewels' "Halloween, anyone?" thread. Invite a specific Night Owl--just 1--to come back to TS and wish you a happy Halloween on this thread. Tell me which Owl you have invited. If your invitee wishes you a happy Halloween here on this thread, you get 3 additional points. Do NOT invite someone that another Townie has already invited. THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME--- 5. Wish the Homesteaders a happy Halloween on my thread for 2 points. Ask if anyone has any tips for getting a ghost to come haunt your house. If anyone gives you a tip, you get 3 additional points. HANDS ACROSS THE WATER--- 6. For 4 points go to the Round Table and find someone who has been to Thetford or Lewes. Get them to tell you about one of the towns. DO NOT MENTION THOMAS PAINE! If the RTer mentions the Paine connection at either place, you get 5 additional points. Tell me on this thread which RTer has talked with you about the town(s). 7. Find an RTer who has tried Harvey's Tom Paine ale. For 3 points, get him/her to describe the taste to you. Post here on this thread which RTer you've gotten to do this. O CANADA--- 8. The Canadian Town Square loves kittens! For 4 points see if you can get someone from the CTS to wish the kittens a happy Halloween on my Kitten Thread. The CTSer must state which Townie sent him/her, and each CTSer can represent only one Townie. UP ON A SOAPBOX--- 9. For 5 points go to the Soapbox and wish them a happy Halloween on my thread. Include in your post a statement of fact about Thomas Paine--- Ex. I'd like to wish everyone a happy Halloween and, by the bye, did you know that Thomas Paine's bones were stolen? The statement of fact can be about an event in Paine's life, something he wrote, some belief he held-----as long as it is accurate! Now here's the catch---you may NOT repeat something that someone else has already said about Paine. For 5 BONUS POINTS--- POINK A PINK--- Find a pink, any pink, on any board and wish him/her a happy Halloween and get them to return the favor here on this thread. The first player a pink wishes a happy Halloween here gets credit for that pink. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL THE PINKS FOR THIS. Catch them on the boards instead. Remember, you have until midnight Sunday to complete these tasks. If you can't find anyone today to co-operate with you, don't give up hope. You may find someone Saturday or Sunday. Good luck and have fun!

Hello robnbob!! Thank you for asking!!
Tom Paine has a place in history as the preeminent founder of the United States of America. He was, in fact, the first person to coin this phrase. In the course of his lifetime, Paine was an outstanding political and social influence upon the entire world.
He authored The Age Of Reason. Thomas Paine, critiques Christianity and the Bible as a Deist. When Paine wrote, the idea of examining the Bible as a text objectively, let alone critically, was unheard of. Paine finds many of the internal contradictions and atrocities of the Bible and lays them out with withering scorn. The Age of Reason is a freethought classic.

well, turn all lights off, burn inscence and chant, " COME GHOSTIE COME" in a spooky accent, it might work, by the way put some answers about t.paine on u.k rt if you want it !

alternativly,

take one film crew, put them in your living room, all lights MUST be off, ghosts dont like light.......

dig down into your basement floor, there you will find some bones of an ancient knight.....put them out in the garden on the rubbish,, forever after you will be haunted by the voice saying "give me back my bones" in a spooky voice and the ghost will come looking for them !

"This brew is named after the political theorist, whose ideas influenced the drafting of the American Declaration of Independence. It has a bubbly, loose but long-lived head, and a hoppy, slightly metallic aroma. In the mouth it is firm and hoppy, with maybe a hint of burnt malt. The metallic theme returns a little - perhaps due to slightly overcooked hops. It is slightly foamy in the manner of a mousseux, yet clean. The malt is light, caramelly, but doesn't impart too much sweetness. Towards the finish the hops return, but the aftertaste is predominantly of faintly cloying caramel. A surprisingly strong beer for the taste, it would nevertheless go down very nicely at a party."

Happy Halloween to The Soapbox!
Were you aware that Thomas Paine's phamplet "Common Sense", was the spark that caused the American and French revolutions. However, this enemy of tyranny has been written out of our history books because 200 years ago in 1794 he published his banned masterpiece, "The Age of Reason". This challenged the beliefs, power and wealth of the Christian Church. Telling the truth was his downfall.

Poing a pink. Well I poinged several pinks, but I obviously didn't do it in the right way, by starting a thread or emailing. I went to every board and asked on their threads. The only response I received was from damon. Hopefully, someone will pop in before noon.
