This is funny ... voters blame Obama as much as Bush for economy

Voters for the first time are blaming President Obama nearly as much as President Bush for the country’s continuing economic problems.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 49% still blame the economic situation on the recession that began under Bush. But 45% now say the nation’s economic problems are caused more by Obama’s policies.

Just a month ago, 55% pointed the finger at Bush, while only 37% said the policies Obama has put in place since taking office were at fault. These findings had remained largely unchanged since May.

Sixty-two percent (62%) now trust their own judgment more than the president’s when it comes to the economic issues :^O facing the nation, up three points from a month ago and up 13 points from early February. Twenty-seven percent (27%) trust Obama’s economic judgment more, and 11% are not sure.

This value is shifting faster than I thought. It's possible that more people will say "It's Obama's economy" as opposed to "It's Bush's economy" by summer of 2010. Dems may not be able to run against Bust next November.

> 62% trust their own judgment more than the president’s
This number is actually far worse for Obama. It was inevitable that people would start to hold Obama more accountable than Bush at some point, but this is a bit of a surprise. With all of the campaign hype about how incredibly intelligent Obama is, and how thoughtful, and how capable, and so on, this number could be devastating to him by 2012, especially given the fact that ground level leftists usually picture their leaders as infintely above them in everything. shining gods on high that are almost incomprehensible to us mere mortals.

Not any more, I guess. Well, perhaps except for bartlett, who has said that he'll blame Bush and only Bush for any bad news anywhere for the next 20 years.

When peoples' pocketbooks are on the line, they aren't very patient. I said this a long while back. Carville was right when he said "it's the economy, stupid."

Americans for the first time will watch as other parts of the world begin booming, while their economy resembles the Japanese sickness of the last two decades. Debt and socialism was the recipe. Capitalism and freer markets will outperform as usual.

It was inevitable that people would start to hold Obama more accountable than Bush at some point, but this is a bit of a surprise.

I think a big part of the problem is that when a big reform plan is announced, almost immediately someone within his administration is found to be working to weaken it. [Today it's Rahm mucking about with small business protections that will endanger investors]. There is an appalling lack of unity and clarity in the administration. But it's early days and the issues are all pretty gnarly. I'm quite content to wait until we get another year out before worrying too much.

Still, I do think the high volume and incessant drumbeat of negativism from far right radio/TV, amplified by the MSM, is having overall a bad effect on all of us and I strongly suspect that it skews poll responses. I'd almost welcome a return to just one hour of news at 6 pm each night. I think it would have an amazing de-stressing effect on all of us.

Not surprising. When Obama claimed that with his stimulus bill, unemployment would top out at 7.8%, then start dropping....yet unemployment is 9.8% and continues to rise....

When Obama claims to have created or saved thousands of jobs....yet unemployment numbers continue to rise....

How can anyone trust his judgment???

Interesting (and scary) article here that some might like to read: Link . I hope he's wrong. :(

While campaigning for Corzine, he's also claimed that Corzine has really helped out with Property Tax relief, although property taxes in New Jersey have skyrocketed. This really is Orwellian Newspeak. :)

And still, just to sound like a broken record, no Obama supporter can ever answer my questions about all these saved and created jobs. How many are or have gone to illegal aliens?

It was an inteesting (and reasonably accurate) article. Pretty much what I've been screeming from rooftops, for years (but then, in TS land I'm known as Dr DOOM ;).

I think that he exaggerates the numbers (the official GDP isn't that far off, and the underground economy adds another significant portion that is not counted by him or the Feds) and therefore the effects of the problem. But his grasp of the problem is firm. A large debt-to-income ratio is a nation killer, and Obama is trying his idiotic best to enlarge it.

My own opinion is that the GDP number is probably as accurate as it usually is. I'm not going to descend into "The President is faking the numbers" B.S. that I had to deal with when Bush was in office. Every single month from late 2003 to the summer of 2004, whenever a positive jobs report would come out, the usual suspects would claim that the number was made up, we're still losing jobs, etc. When asked to document their insane claims, they would vanish until the next positive jobs report and we would start all over again.

The problem with this GDP report is that it's artificially inflated with Government spending that we simply cannot duplicate every quarter, time without end. The debut is piling up past endurance, and there may already be some cracks in it. No, I don't blame Obama for creating most of it, but it's here, and he's adding to it enormously.

I suspect that the VAST majority of American adults understand that you can’t always swallow the manufacturer’s claims (ads). What I don’t understand is why anyone (of sound mind) would believe in government statistics and economic data. All government supplied economic data (CPI, GDP, money supply, federal deficit, unemployment figures, etc) is filled with flaws, hype, distortions, omission, propaganda, and outright lies. They are NOT going to ever tell you the true story, they're not ever going to tell you their plans aren’t working.

If you want get figures that are in the ball park (as opposed to the fedspin) you need to seek out John Williams Shadow Government Statistics (NOT B.O.B.S.)!

It just goes to show you how smart most Americans are.
It takes Bush 8 years to royaly flush the economy down the toilet but Obama is expected to fix it within a year.
Well Duuuuuuh.

I don't demand that he fix it in a year. I do, however, demand that he stop making it worse.

It's time. Bush can't do anything else to wreck the economy, so other than using blame as an exercise in history, Obama is the man. As has been pointed out before, we have one President at a time.

That's hilarious, and would show how stupid the American people really are.We have many problems that were caused by Republicans.

But signs that the economy is looking up are all around us,so check back with your polls when it really matters.
Also, those of us who know the truth and the reality will constantly remind those in never never land who really caused the problems.
