EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Sep 25, 2006 1:37 PM
The overall successful sales count so far for September has actually gone up slightly with a rate of about 45% sell-through according to independent records(Medved). They chart sales figures for eBay and you can look up the historical sales charts from about 1999.

That still amounts to a 55% auction failure rate...but historically, that's about in line(and slightly better than a few past periods of really slow sales where success rates were pegged at under 40%!)

Check them out. It really sheds some light on the real situation and sales counts.

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Please don't type in all caps. This is considered shouting and is very hard to read and considered rude. Sales are down all over. But another site is up and coming and won't cost you. Maybe you should try it for a few items and see if you like it. Email me for more details.

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Oct 10, 2008 11:07 AM
What is happening is 1) we are seeeing the tail end of a republican economy, which is always a depression or near depression.

and

2) as ebay changes from a meeting place for people wishing to exchange money for items into a megalomart, people are weaning off of it.

It really is not hard to figure out, I find it quite obvious.

With the implementation of all the new changes, it's turned into 'fee-bay'.

Try a smaller market like www.eurekatopeka.com, auctions are free to list, and no closing fees!

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Oct 10, 2008 2:20 PM
I have been selling vintage photographs here for nearly 10 years and can not remember sales ever being so .... slow is not the word .... non existent. I am checking back into Rubylane.com. I sold there before eBay. I stuck with eBay because it was better, but while RL was improving their site eBay was lining their pockets. I will not need to have a host for photo uploads and get zoom quality .... I will probably get some kind of fine for even saying these things so check things out for yourself.

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Oct 10, 2008 6:05 PM
Yes sales are totally down. The economy is the reason. People cannot afford to shop, period. Everyone has to spend their money on gas, groceries, medicine, utilities, and everything else that has gone threw the roof. So since ebay is mainly for shopping for wants and not needs....our sales are suffering. I guess our only hope of that turning around is when and if the economy does. It is not a good time to be in sales of any kind.

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Sales Down here as well - as is my buying. One reaason is that with the lower listing fees, sellers are listing every piece of junk - who wants to browse through piles of cheap junk to find quality merchandise? So eBay has turned my category (Classical Cds) into an online Salvation Army Store.

There's too much dollar store crap in eBay now. America has dollar stores on every corner in every town. We don't need eBay to purchase low end garbage. All we have to do is drive down the street for it.

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

lady_8 is right. Ebay offers junk that no one wants or can buy locally with no Ebay/Paypal hassles. You get better protecion buying locally anyway. Instant returns/exchanges.
The question is, why buy on Ebay?? The answer. No reason what so ever. Ebay doesn't see that.
Ebay is not seller friendly anymore.
Ebay deserves to fail. Just a matter of time now.

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Oct 12, 2008 11:39 AM
Why buy on ebay? Convenience/gas prices/and competition keep prices low. Why not buy on ebay...cause folks are BROKE.
I noticed a big spike upward last weekend and thought maybe things were on the upturn. Short lived though. About the economy and politics I really don't see it. Go to your local Mall or restaurant they are packed.
There aren't signs of the terrible economy at least on the surface. I know it's bad, I'm suffering too as are most if not all of you. Probably the solution is to sell things that are indeed more in the need category rather than the want category. Not an easy feat with most ebay sellers.
I'm as fed up with fee bay as the next seller, and I've tried ioffer and it is a joke. I've never collected from 1 sale there. Emails to the site are unanswered. At this point I just want out. People buy and never pay. Not to bring anybody down but I fear it will get worse before it gets better. I'm cutting back listing as it doesn't seem to make any difference how much I list.
Hope it gets better for all of us!

EBAY SALES REALLY DOWN!!! IN SEPTEMPBER WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Agreed. All of the auction sites are a joke. That includes Ebay.
Ebay is not convenient. It's a hassle.
Most people can get to the stores that sell Ebay things for less than it would cost to ship and they can buy multiple items while they are out so the gas argument doesn't work.
The prices for new items on Ebay are not any better than the stores around me and I can make instant returns or exchanges.
The correct response would be people are broke and Ebay is a bad place to shop.
There are alot of free shipping deals on company owned websites like Walmart.com, TRU.com and any other corporate website. Free shipping on Ebay depends on the seller and sellers cannot afford to offer free shipping. Ebay is taking chunks of the profit already.
Ebay has a HUGE problem with shill bidders/bid pushers. Ebay doesn't seem to mind. Higher bids = more money for Ebay.
