Paying more than the agreed price

Oct 24, 2009 3:04 PM
I need some opinions. I recently purchased an item for $62, plus $16 shipping. I received an email from the seller that there was an error made and she needs $6.75 more for shipping. I thought she offered a cheaper shipping option and I accepted as long as I no longer needed to pay her more. Then I get an email that I still owe her the money. I sent a response that I thought we were even. Then today, she states that there was another $4.80 charge from UPS. So now she wants $12.00 more for shipping (this brings the shipping total to about $30 for a $60 item). How should I respond? I feel like I am paying way more than I would have otherwise, I really want the item, but I can't pay $90 for it! Should I be responsible for paying more than I agreed upon? In my emails I ask for her to work with me on this, but she simply sends more invoices. How frustrating!

Is it the 'Spooky town Halloween Lighthouse.' ???

If so, I see in her TOS that she is charging an exorbitant postal charge of $47.60. ??

I don't see a $16.00. anywhere..??

What the shipping was when the auction closed is the amount you owe. Nothing more.

OP,

I believe I know what happened...

I see there is another Spooky lighthouse listed right now, with a shipping charge of $16.00...

Do you think that maybe you mixed the listings up..and thought you were bidding on the other one..???

No, I went back to my eBay and clicked on the lighthouse from the items that I won. I know the original shipping was 15.86. I was just wondering if it is a normal event for shipping charges to change and if/when they do, who is responsible for paying that...

Sounds like seller trying to make changes after the item was purchased and not price originally given.

I say don't discuss it with seller anymore.
Seller not willing to work with you.
I say just go ahead and report her to ebay enough of letting seller frustrate you.

Sounds like those Nigerian scams where they ask you to pay a little bit more after each time you've agreed to pay some additional fee.

If that person made an honest mistaken that's her responsabilty and she ought to shoulder it. Her repeated demands show that she has no honor: she doesn't keep her word, her contract.

She should be reported to eBay, it might not be the first time she does that; she might also continue doing it as long as everybody puts up with it.

In the final analysis it is your hard earned money.
