Back in those days -- my grandparents generation -- the only pics they had of their parents were in thier coffins. Taking pictures just wasn't that common, and was the last and only chance some people had, just like with kids.
It is creepy, though. I saw a pic of my own great grandmother in her coffin -- she died at 28, and it was just like looking at myself at the time.
