We the people . . . .

Sep 22, 2009 10:49 AM
Attention ebay community!!!

Have you experienced the following on ebay?

1. Unjustified negative feedback
2. Felt alone trying to communicate with ebay
3. Voiced a genuine concern to ebay only to recieve an automated response
4. Felt an increase in constrictive rules as a seller
5. Felt that buyers have been givin too much power

Have you noticed that ebay.com has created a monopoly? Currently ebay requires all payments be done through paypal. Paypal's money market fund is at a laughable (if not so seriously true) percentage.

Ebay is on the attack against sellers in one form or another. Lets see . . . listing fees + listing enhancement fees + sold fees + paypal payment fees = $$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yea, check your account statements and you will see that ebay and paypal take a sickly amount of your money per item sold.

Do YOU think ebay deserves this much of your hard earned money??? I mean, you drove to purchase the item, picture it, time to create the listing, market it, sell it, communicate with the buyer, package the item, deal with all hassles and aspects of shipping and handling, and possibly create a budget around all this to keep business flowing.

Then, if feedback, DSRs, disputes, fees, and/or listing mistakes are below ebay's perfectionist rules, you get restricted!!! No warnings, no communication, and with a one-sided absolute ruling against you!!!

WOW!!! It's a good thing that SO MANY people just take this kind of abuse or ebay would be out of business!!!

We the people, need to STAND UP!!! Let ebay know that their tyrannical views and treatment on OUR buying and selling community will NOT be tolerated!!!

Ebay FORGOT that without us, it ceases to exist. Voice out!!! It is due time that we the consumers show how much power we have!!!

Also, I emailed the following message to ebay's customer service but don't expect it to get anywhere with them, so please communicate it to anyone and everyone that needs to read it!!!

-----------------------------

Dear ebay,

My selling privleges were restricted due to the seller non-performance policy. The only violation I was aware of, and is now resolved, was an overdue balance of my ebay fees. The restriction email I recieved was a generalized message and did not specify my personal infractions. I would very much like to know what issue or issues resulted in my restriction. In fact, listing these issues for account holders when a restriction is made will help the ebay community. This will help by bringing attention to the individual any issues they may have been unaware of.

Also, I belive that account restrictions should be less than 30 days or lifted immediately upon issue resolution. I myself have been relying upon ebay as a primary income source since becoming a displaced worker over 1 1/2 years ago.

Ebay could benefit as an economic stimulator by actively resolving account issues in real time. This would result in two main outcomes: 1. Ebay could hire more customer service operators (thus, creating jobs) 2. Accounts could be active and in good standing MUCH faster, which would create more buying and selling with an end result of ebay generating more income.

Also, I know that ebay.com should impliment this great new campaign as a way to generate more income due to the fact that fiscal 2008 revenue for ebay.com fell short of investor expectations.

In conclusion, my suggestions would be a great benefit to ebay, its customers, and our current economy.

In fact, there really is not a downside to these ideas other than the fact that this message may fall to deaf ears. I have emailed concerns and suggestions to ebay frequently in the past. Yet, all responses I have recieved were obviously computer generated. This shows me that ebay is increasingly losing its communication and attachment to the commerce community that it strived to create.

So, if this message is actually read then please take all I've stated into consideration. Also, forward it to the CEO, your boss, or whomever has the power and/or ability to bring ebay back to the prestigious company that it used to be.

It's been going downhill a long time.. and it hasnt' been as nice here as it used to be...

But...

"Currently ebay requires all payments be done through paypal."

That's not true. You can use a credit card merchant acct too.

" Let ebay know that their tyrannical views and treatment on OUR buying and selling community will NOT be tolerated!!! "

It's not OURS. It's their website.

" We the people, need to STAND UP!!!

Been there, dont that.. since the Feb 08 boycott. It doesn't work

" Ebay FORGOT that without us, it ceases to exist. "
.

Actually, many here feel they dont' want us small sellers. Only huge megasellers.

" I myself have been relying upon ebay as a primary income source since becoming a displaced worker over 1 1/2 years ago.

Please understand, smart sellers don't keep All their eggs in one basket.

Reply Update:

quelimaine - You have ZERO feedback. Obviously you haven't felt ebay's wrath yet.

fiberwireguy - LOL!!! Yea, you could call me a spaz for going off about ebay's abuse of its customers. But, revolution never started with one "spaz" out of the group.

18704d - Thanks for a very sensible reply to my rants. Let me explain my quoted text for you:

1. Yes, you are right that merchant accounts can accept credit cards. I am sure you know how much, begining to end, that setup process costs.

2. Right again, it is THEIR website business. But, did any business exist WITHOUT buyers or supporters???

3. Do you know your American history? Our country's founding fathers didn't give up just because their first attempts didn't work. You should fight for what you belive in no matter what it is. Only then, will you truly find content and fullfilment within your life.

4. Yes, ebay only wants the megasellers. Why don't they just merge with Amazon.com and become:
EBAZON.COM!!! **If they actually do this, I will soil myself!!!***

5. Correct again!!! I do have some local sources such as buyer's want lists, flea markets, second hand stores, etc. It's just that is easier to sell something on ebay for $50.00 than locally pulling teeth to sell the same item for $20.00

Wendy, that's probably just code for "Do you feel better now that you got that all out of you?"

Dear Wendy,

OK, so I finally achieved all 5.0's on my DSRs yesterday. Actually all 4.95's but they round up. My 100% feedback has comments from customers praising my products and service as though I were a god.

This morning I wake up to a 4.94 in the cost of shipping DSR. I'm so pissed I could go out and strangle a cat!

eBay is so unfair! I'm absolutely perfect and without fault of any kind. Why doesn't JD realize that?

Oh, and why did eBay remove all the genuine copies of the fake NAZI paraphernalia I just listed?

How's that?

quelimaine - You have ZERO feedback. Obviously you haven't felt ebay's wrath yet.

And you don't know about posting IDs.Obviously you aren't familiar with eBay boards yet.

BTW, my seller FB is nearly 4000, 100% positive. Just FYI.

Hi again wendy. Thanks for coming back to review our thoughts.

First off, most of us, myself included used posting IDs to post here, in order to protect our auctions from those who may take exception to our views...

2. You mentioned eBay should serve it's customers. For the last two years or so, it's become increasingly evident that eBay considers the buyers their customers. Even though us sellers pay the fees, we are simply an easily-replaceable conduit for the buyer's money. Everything here is being slanted to positive buying experience.

3. And although American history is important, it's more valid to learn about eBay boycott / protest history here. Since Feb of 2008, there have been several huge efforts to "organize" or "boycott". Masses of users have flooded eBay with petitions.. many signed by thousands. It was labelled as "noise". eBay has a vision. And it will not be swayed by user's perceptions.

5. "It's just that is easier to sell something on ebay for $50.00 than locally pulling teeth to sell the same item for $20.00"

My "eggs in one basket" was not referring to local sales. Smart sellers use more than one internet venue to sell. Read Seller Central discussion board, and a few others, and you'll get hints of other places where some are having success.

Take care,
Lynn

In that case, yes, I do have another site I have started to sell on. I also have my own website currently in the works.
