The Official Elmo Live Thread

For those of you who have secured an Elmo Live...Congradulation! I have baught more than 1.

We must act now. We must come together. This is the year of Elmo. We need to make the market strong for Elmo. TMX was oversaturated on eBay. Chances are...this Elmo will be plentiful on ebay too.

Elmo started strong last time. He was selling for $200+ the first few weeks. Then the market bombed. Why? People tried to outdo eachother and capture the market with lower prices.

We must agree to create a strong elmo market. We must agree that Elmo is worth $150 or more.

Dont settle. Make the market strong all season.

Why do so many people do a buy it now for only $89.00 dollars and free shipping as well?. Isnt that a complete waste a time and hardley any profit??? Its to bad these people are ruining it for them selves and everyone else, these would probably already be going for 150.00 and up if it wasn't for all the low BIN's.

I concede. I was incorrect on the paypal fees, they really are around $3.50, not $5.50 as I originally posted. However, I just went through the motions of posting a fake elmo listing, and yes, final value fees on $90 is $8.40 as I had originally posted. And yes, a fake shipment via Priority Mail is about $8. For the people selling elmo for $85-$90 with free shipping, the profits look bad.

Exactly. Half the elmo sellers probably have no idea how much they will end up paying out to ebay, paypal, and usps. And trust me, I am not opposed to selling hard to find toys for a profit. Half my household income comes from selling toys on ebay year round. I just hate to see the newbies spoil it for the rest of us by cutting the profits to the bone. I would love nothing more than to see Elmo sell for $150+. But at this point, I am not selling him.

I agree start them much higher $150-$200...but $500????
They will just sit!! I agree Underwexotics....They should be higher. to be realistic i would say $150 now and 1 month befor Christmas $280. Now this will only....And i mean "ONLY" work if everyone of us stick together.....that means everyone should list them now for $150 and the rest will take over. If everyone continues to list at .99?????????? they will never take off.....this is my thoughts.

Every time an Elmo sells on E-bay at retail price, another one slips through....Now that person has got one for retail price. If there started at $150....they will still sell!!!! Thats right.....because people want this toy! Now.....people that dont buy now will wait and relize that they cant get it and will break down and buy at $200-$300 range later.....Does anyone understand that?
Good luck guys!
Lets all stick together

Hi,
I bought 6 Elmo's 2 from amazon 2 from Etoys and 2 from Walmart.com. This is my first year selling elmos. I paid around 70 each tax after tax and shipping. I started selling my dvd's last month to get rid of them and see how selling works. I figured to make any money I would have to start shipping high. I learned stuff will sell for a penny ebay took alot of my profits. I have been looking for articles on elmo not finding anything good. Elmo live is not getting the hype this year. I have not seen him on tv. Last year he was on so many shows and everyone was talking about it. So I figured I would have to start at 95 to make any profit. I'm a little scared that I'm going to lose money. I'm going to wait until nov to list mine anyone have any advice to a new seller. thanks

2,878 current listings with the lowest BIN being $75 with free shipping. It is getting worse, not better. Completed listings show most are ending in the $60-$70 range.

I wouldn't worry just yet. Right now economy is on peoples mind not spending money on toys. Wait till mid november when the Christmas Bug bites and the hype for elmo live starts then we will sell. Let all these people that have already flooded the market with their priced too low auctions get rid of their inventory then we will make the real money come mid november and on..

They show it already on TV here. Dont worry it will pick up. thouse people selling them for $95 bucks are new ebay sellers or they dont know what they are doing. Play Station 3 When people had the pre-sale tickes they where selling at around $1500. THEN when they finnally came out and did not have them in the stores they where selling for over $10,000.

Where I come from making $15 dollars on a $65 investment is called making a 25% profit. Maybe some of you didn't pass economics 101 or perhaps you haven't looked at your 401k lately, but making 25% is probably a hell of a lot better than anything else in your portfolio, and if nothing else you can return it and get your money back at full price. By the way that is something that you can't do with your money in the stock market that has seen a 30% drop in the past 12 months.
