Looking for a SPECIFIC SNES console
Jun 24, 2012 04:03 AM

I'm looking for a SNES console in GREAT condition, doesn't have to include anything but the console, but little to no scratches, scuffs, stickers gone, etc. But I'm looking for a SNES console that has a serial number between UN318299752 and UN321238373. These SNES console's have a better video chip inside them to produce better video quality. Here's an example of the video chip. http://sd2snes.de/blog/archives/75 Yes, this is for a US console. But there were two of these chips made, a normal one in lower serial number consoles, and then a revised version of the chip, in the consoles between the serial numbers I described. If anyone has this up for sale or has seen it up for sale anywhere (I haven't found any), please respond or send me a message.

I checked all mine. None of them fall within those numbers, sorry.

I actually didn't know about this, so thank you for the info.

I actually have the SNES console with the SNS-CPU-1CHIP-01

I found the serial numbers are not always a accurate way to find them. I have the special star bit to open them up and peek inside them. I currently have one.

That's good to hear, but within those serial numbers is the 1Chip-02, not 1Chip-01 or 1Chip-03, yes, there's a 3rd one. But only the 1Chip-02 is the only one to have the color quality but also no verticle line across the screen. So, best video chip encoder out there. That's the one I'm looking for.

Yes I've had the 1chip-03 as well.

Well if anyone has the 1Chip-02, I'll GLADLY buy it, just the console only is needed.

Easy way to tell, turn the console on, if you don't see ANY type of Vertical Line (Top to Bottom) on the screen, you're good to go.

From what I understand is that the UN318-UN321 units have terrible picture quality, despite having the same "new" encoder as the Snes2. Most people say the way to go is to get the standard single chip model UN300-UN317 and live with the vertical bar, or mod an Snes2 and deal with the glitches.

I'm currently using an older unit with RGB and have no real complaints, but I plan to pick up the two different single chip models so I can do an A/B/C comparison of the 3 units.

Quick question, what's up with the consoles that have unually high serial numbers? (UN6xx/7xx/8xx/9xx)

I'm guessing they're manufacturer-refurbs or factory-repaired units?

My apologies, I wanted to correct myself in the above post. Many people have been mistakenly infering that the RGB-02 came after the 1chip-01, and I confused the rgb-02 with the 1chip-02.

I guess it is very possible that the 1chip-02 is superior to the 1chip-01.

Yeah those are from Manufactuer's that were fixed, refurbished, etc. An easy way to tell at first glance to see if it's worth asking someone for the serial number or to take it apart, is the eject button, jas the letters molded onto it instead of printed white.
