Vickie, So sorry to hear you have been having a rough go. I have seen sales drop dramatically, come back a ways, and I am keen to try a new on-line auction house, but haven't decided which one.
My experience has been the floor dropped out on my sales last winter and stayed that way through spring. This past summer, it picked back up again and certain items are up to about 1/2 to 3/4 of the price they were 2 years ago. I mostly sell vintage lingerie. I tried jewelry recently and some 80's cocktail dresses, but they didn't do great. All the jewelry sold - but for 9.99 each. That was painful and now I am reluctant to list anymore.Good vintage jewelry is hard to come by these days (at least for me) so giving it away is just not worth it.
Have you tried diversifying your product at all? Maybe focus on an earlier era or . . ?

Hi,Annielake Well, I sold a ton of 30's/ 40's. A year and half ago. But that soon sold out and it has been slow and slower since. Just have not found any 30-40 . I guess I will wait till after Christmas and then decide what to do. Thanks

My sales are also next to nothing. Few Watchers but no bidders. Im feeling like my items may not be visible at times. I often wonder about Ebay searches...

Also, I have had two returns this last week. One scammer, and the other not pleased with her purchase. Very, very depressing!

Vicky I really think it is not just Ebay...I think it's everything the economy is really bad, I have seen so many things I would have love to bid on but I just can't right now.....I think many people are feeling the pinch..I do however really think it is all going to be ok..How? I'm not sure I just know that this is going to turn around and we just have to hang in there.

I know I have been very careful when I go to sales and the TS if it's not something I am sure is going to sell I won't buy it even if its only $1...I used to buy SO much so I guess it's a good thing..

Keep your chin up, it will get better (maybe not what it once was, I think the novelty of Ebay has warn off and the auctions aren't anywhere near where they once where...)but it will get better..I promise:-x

I still do auctions but in the mindset of okay I would be happy if I got X amount and that's what I start it at and alot of times, if it sells that's what it goes for...

Vickie - Sorry to hear of the slump; you're in good company though! My only advice, and this is just from personal experience so take it for what it's worth...try to hit 75 listings. I know lots of folks say 100 is a magic number and when I did get to 100 briefly, sales were significant but even at my average of 75 I've been doing well most weeks. There definately seems to be a rolling brown out where listings get less views but i use twitter constantly and it keeps my page hits up and sales up. ASQ me if you want help on twitter! Good luck!

Vicky, I feel your pain. I have moved my best vintage to etsy, and have packed everything else up for the thrift. I was never a big seller, and maybe that's part of the problem, no marketing, etc. Anyway, best of luck to you.

Twitter Help by Carrie...LOL
When i signed up for a twitter account i did a search for friends using words like vintage clothing, couture, lingeie, boudoir...anything that sounded like it would attract folks who like things that i sell (mainly vtg lingerie). I followed all of them and for the ones I came across who were also sellers I looked at their followers and followed anyone who seemed interested in vintage clothing. Most people will follow a person who follows you...at least briefly...it's seems to be a sort of etiqette thing.

I now have about 1400 followers and have met some really great vintage buyes and sellers. Each day (I try) I post a link to several lisitings. Just open up one of your listings FP or auction or store and copy the URL. Go to tinyurldotcom and shrink it (it's free or you can sign up for something like Tweetdeck which I use too...but start easy!) Tinyurldont com shrinks your link into a manageable number of characters. Post it with a little blurb like "great vintage 40s shoes size 7) and past the tiny url in and hit enter.....now a direct link to your auction or store or non-ebay venue has just gone out to everyone who follows you!

The important thing is spend a few days or weeks looking for new people to follow because that's what builds your followers! I also make it a point to send a few direct messages to other sellers who tweet links...you end up meeting such great people with the same passion for vintage!

I am MagnoliaBoudoir on twitter - feel free to look at and follow my followers!

Hope that helps!!!!!

Carrie

pinweel - it's done wonders...once you get a fair number of followers make a menta note of your page views prior to tweeting a link and then about 3 minutes later...it is astounding! I can get 20 - 40 page hits within 5 minutes EVERY time I tweet a link!

I really think that the selling / buying atmosphere around here has changed. In searching for certain items to purchase, I've noticed that in the categories I'm looking at about 90% or more of the stuff is fixed price. And these aren't bargain prices. Don't shop for much vintage, so not sure if what I'm saying applies.

I also agree that its the economy and the time of the year. I always did my best selling on NOS vintage items in late Nov and into December - probably for presents. And party clothes sell well, but I think everything else is displaced as non-essential.

I'm not buying much at local sales, either, because the ones around here are hurting also and have raised their prices. Guess they have the skewed thinking that fewer item sales with higher profit can offset getting rid of everything for a reasonable price.

I feel like I have fallen off a building this month, I know the reason why too, my listings arent getting any hits. I dont think its me in particular, I think ebay does rolling brown outs as stated earlier.

I have had 60 to 85 listings running each week, I have had about 25% of my normal sales.

I have 3 paypal problems, which I am sure I will lose all due to the fact that I am the seller. what hurts about that is two are heavy international items, that means I will lose about 75 dollars in shipping.

I seems we now take returns for" it doesnt fit", and "it doesnt look good on me".

Betsy is probably going to start seeing 95% of my business instead of 40% as now.

I think this venue is now going to take 2nd or third on my list of places to do business, I would really like to start using my g@@gle check out more also

I haven't listed much here since March (for personal reasons) and with all the new changes, I will keep a low profile when it comes to listing here.

I've had good luck at betsy, but need to get back to listing there too and also MP and my website. I would love to list some things for VBO, but the last one I didn't do that well and I had some really nice things up.

I remember a when it was discussed that eBay did not want the "image" of selling used items and now it's coming to. I also think that the economy is playing a big part because I really don't have the money to spend and a new little one that needs me so her needs have to come first. I'm afraid to find out how much it will cost to have her spayed, but it needs to be done. Things that I wouldn't think twice about spending $$ on when I was working are now like luxuries and they go on the back burner :(

Vickie, if you can hold out or try branching out to other places, it may help. I figure I've got nothing to loose listing elsewhere, with the exception of low listing fees compared go here and even the final fees are much lower at the other places that I have accounts.
