Is this scrap?
Aug 9, 2012 09:17 PM

Hello, everyone.

I'm debating on scraping this, it is not getting the views I had expected.  item # 251124737412

I found one, online identical to this, but no price. just a few shots on "flicker".

any suggestions?  this thing has been sitting in my safe , honestly it will probably never get worked on.

I really think it would be a shame to let such rare item go to scrap, all ser# matching.

I  thought about scrapping the outter shell, and posting the movement dial, with dust cover.

is it price? scarce parts?  should i have it fixed?

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Personally, I'd run it at $.99 and no reserve for 7 or 10 days and see what happens. Weigh it accurately(include that in the auction) and you can be assured that you won't get less than scrap. If there's more than scrap value there(I suspect there is) the bid price will reflect that.

the watch is being incorrectly listed as a Patek Philippe in the first lime of the text.

this tends to suggest that you are trying to deceive - many people pick-up on this - especially those buying expensive items

it is not a Patek Philippe. it is a Chs Patek et Co  ( or et Cie) - hard to read - no relation to the Patek Philippe brand - look up the history of the company and you will see.

it is not worth what you are asking

that is why its not selling

so, this is not a patek phillippe?

It was not my intent, to deceive anyone , but could not find anything on this item other then some"flicker" photo.

I was just looking up the meaning of "chs" .

So, this would be just another old timer, nothing really special about it, other then it being gold.

So "chs patek & co" and patek phillippe have no relation.

where could I find info on this "chs patek & co" , If i may ask?

thank you.

Hi Gunnie,

"Chs Patek and Cie," is Charles Patek and Company. You can Google that, but I don't believe there is a lot of information on the internet, just some examples of his work.

It appears that the value of this watch is directly related to the gold content of the case, as Charles Patek movements don't seem to garner a lot of collector interest.

So it is not a patek phillippe, and "Chs" stands for charles,

I just want to be 100%, before I throw another good item into the furnace.

I';ve made so many mistakes, throughout this ;"gold rush&", without even thinking twice... gosh, i want to run my head through a wall, when I think about some of the items, that are in a block form now.

just want ot be 100%.

well, not to mention, I paid a bit too much for the item....

not "Patek Philippe"

Chs - is a common abbrieviation for Charles

Simple ebauch movement

needs major work

all this add up and if you want instant value you scrap it

it could have some additional value to other people - why not start it at melt value (whatever that is) and see if you can sell it as is

the $4000 asking price is way out of line

it is an older one and the cost to fix it would likely be more than its horological value.

I'd try to sell it for a resonable price first before scraping it

just my opinion

If it has a brass or otherr base metal cuvette (inner cover) it will have a pretty thin outer case, maybe less than 20 grams of 18K.

The use of base metal cuvettes was common where a lower priced market was aimed at. High end stuff is all gold.

i,M JUST RESPONDING TO YOUR COMMENT ON GUNNIEJAMES AND "HIS GOLD PATEK"THE TRUTH IS i,ve dealt with this character face to face.He responded to a craigslist

ad for this watch that I was selling for a friend who is an expert inantique prints, silver, gold, and real estate.I,m disabled and 55 years old so my friend gives me items like coins, antique silver ,coins, etc to keep me busy and if i can make an extra dollar

that,s better.I don,t sell on ebay.Anyhow I invited James to my house and the first few deals went along good.I befriended him and had thought of him highly and even invited him to my home for a barbecue on memorial day.I looked at him as a younger brother, that,s how much my family and wife of 25 years thought of him.He initially picked up the watch and I told him it was an early Patek,I,m no expert. He told me through wbay forum that most did not think it was an original.I believed him and he brought it back.I told him from the get go my own coins and other pieces I could sell or trade and if he could get something in return for the watch(he told me he knew nothing about art but said he had a Calder, bronzes, etc. He asked for the watch back and our last deal a month ago he told me he had an african-american painting by the black picasso,an original David lee painting, etc.I unfortunately never exchanged consignment or sales agreements. After numerous calls:he never answers the phone, emails, texts.I,ve been in his car where he always screens calls.Having gone through all this one sided in his favor deals,I INVITED HIM TO THE HOUSE FOR MY BIRTHDAY ON 9/9/12 AND HE ACCEPTED AND WOULD CALL THE DAY BEFORE TO CONFIRM AND BRING BACK THE WATCH OR A VERY COLLECTIBLE BRONZE THAT I COULD SELL PAY MY FRIEND HIS $1500(THAT,S WHAT HE WANTED FOR THE WATCH AND I COULD GET A SUBSTANTIAL PROFIT FROM THE BRONZE FOR ME.HE NEVER CALLED OR SHOWED UP.NO ANSWERS ON EMAIL AND TEXTS.I FINALLY GOT HIM TO ANSWER HIS PHONE ON THE 10TH WHEN I USED *67.IMMEDIATELY I TOLD HIM I WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT HE INSULTED US BY NOT COMING OR AT LEAST CALL TO SAY NO.HE SHOUTED BACK THAT I WAS GETTING OVER ON HIM,WHICH IS NOT TRUE.I,M OUT ABOUT $3500 PLUS MY FRIENDS WATCH.THIS GUY IS A COMPLETE AND DEGENERATE LIAR AND A THIEF.HE,S MAKING MONEY HAND OVER FIST AND NOW HAS PROBABLY SOLD MY FRIENDS WATCH.WHAT I,M SAYING IS I DON,T HAVE ANY RECOURSE I GUESS BUT TO JUST VENT AND LET YOU KNOW AND OTHERS IS WATCH OUT.HE SOLD ME 2 WATCHES A GOLD IWC WHICH STOPPED WORKING AFTER 2 WEEKS,I LOST $500 ON THAT CAUSE I NEEDED $ AND A TISSOT AUTOMATIC WHICH HE SAID WAS 1970 CIRCA THAT RUNS FOR ABOUT 12 HOURS AND STOPS.HE STOLE THIS CHAS.PATEK AND WITH PRAYER I HOPE HE FINDS A CONSCIOUS AND INTEGRITY TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT.NOT EVEN THE COMMON COURTESY TO CALL AND MAN UP TO APOLOGIZE.THANKS FOR LETTING ME SHARE.RESPECTFULLY.ED HANNA
