To buff or not to buff?

Nov 29, 2005 11:00 AM
Hello, I want to list a vintage Bulova watch that has been engraved on the back with a name and date. Should I get the engraving buffed out, or leave it?
Thank you
Chris

I always leave personal engravings in place. To me they add to the history and patina of a true vintage watch. Also in the case of a gold filled watch, you run the risk of buffing through the gold to the brass underneath.
Unless of course the engraving was done with a pocket knife or a roofing nail. Don't laugh. I've seen things like that before.
