Repair Shop In response to Daphne's request for new sidebar topics, I propose that we start a Repair Shop thread. I restore silver, brass and other metals for a living. I have a friend who cleans and repairs oil paintings. Ten years ago we started a club for people who restore fine objects and within a year we'd met quite a few (27) very interesting people - many of whom lived too far from Orlando to come meet with us, and all of whom were too busy to run a growing club. We don't meet...

Well, I just need to get this off my chest, cry for a few moments, and then get on with my life.... About 3-4 years ago I attended an auction where I purchased a large, pulled loop ruby colored glass vase for about $50.00. I thought it was a fabulous vase. The bottom had an old piece of masking tape identifying it as Vineland Glass, NJ 1900. I tried the glass board to get a positive ID, and no response. Usually the glass board can ID almost anything so I was surprised no one recognized...

I've got the old perfume bottle from my grandfather and beside the bottle show "Prastara" made in poland so I listed it yesterday but today i've got the message from one of the buyer that "Prastara" is the trademark of his company in USA and tell me that I have to cancel the item immediately. Now I cancel this item already for that buyer because i know just a little about perfume but I really want to know about my item ! ! ! Because I'm really sure this perfume bottle is not a fake one...

I cannot find any documentation on this piece by 1847 Rogers Bros. The pattern is Heraldic. Bakelite knob on the lid and handles. Mint condition. Hammered with a very high shine. I know it's supposed to be plated, but it looks & feels like sterling, though not marked sterling or 925. It is 12" across including the handles. It is stunning. Does anyone have any info on this piece? Thanks!

I got this at auction recently where it was listed as Native American. Is that correct? I think maybe it is just a beaded bag with a Southwestern design. What do you think?

Hi I put this on the Needle Arts board but no responses yet. Maybe someone here? Here is a 22 x 16 inch embroidery of the Great Lakes. I'm wondering if anyone recognizes it (was it made from a kit)? And does it have any collectible value? A neighbor offered to buy it but I'm not sure what I have. Thanks so much and Happy Thanksgiving! ~Judy~

Some people have mentioned that they miss the old art appreciation thread so this is an attempt to resurrect it. Rather than rehash what has been done, I hope this thread will be a continuation of the original thread. For those not familiar with the thread, if you search Art Appreciation 101 you will find the archive for awhile yet. While the original thread was titled as a class might be, I did not intend for it to be a class. The hope was that this would be a place where art could be...

I'd like to know the correct time period and era of this brass lamp. I thought it was Art Deco, but possilbe Eastlake? The base is marked Pat. Applied For, EX. Co. 201. Does anyone know anything about this company? (Some parts, such as finial and stem I believe are replacement pieces.) Any info on this item is appreciated. Thanks. Hello! I am trying to confirm, get additional info on these beautiful candelabras, and hopefully list them. I am trying to sell these for some friends and this is what I have been told: They are handmade, from the 1700s, they are french baroque, brass gilded and there are no stampings whatsoever from what I could tell. Can anybody confirm this, or add, and is there any other places we should be looking for stampings or markings?? Your help is greatly appreciated!! Eva...

A friend of mine wants me to sell two old American primitive type portraits that are from around 1830 or so. They are both off their frames, and the frames are very unattractive and basically trash. I know good antiqure frames and these are basically just basic wood that's badly damaged. They have hammered square-top nails in them and are fairly large, for pictures that are 26 1/2" by 22". I am thinking of selling the pictures on eBay but the frames really would be just a hassle...
